Guest guest
I am soo mad, no, I am pissed! My son receives SSI for disability. We fought for 2 years for this and finally ended up going to State court for it and the judge ruled in our favor. They owed my son $7,000 in back pay. They paid him part of it back in March (5,000) and the other $2,000 was supposed to come in September. His worker just called me and said that I am supposed to show up there tomorrow at 9am with receipts for every cent. I told her that was ok cause I save all my receipts and had tons for food and clothing and we bought him a Little Tikes car bed and did his entire room in Star Wars. She said none of this counts! According to her, I was not allowed to us any of that money for that stuff. When they gave it to us there was a list of things it could be used for such as medical costs, all of which are covered by our insurance, and on that list was personal needs. Wouldn't you consider food and clothing and furniture for him personal needs? I am so upset, I have been crying since she called. She said they can make us pay back every cent of it. She also said I can not use travel expenses such as taking him to and from the doctor and the trips to other states to seek treatment. What am I to do? Dawn, mommy to Dakota, 6(in 1st grade, only a few more years before the boys are pounding down the doors) and , 2-1/2 (eosinophilic gastroenteritis, fundo 10/96)
Guest guest
Dawn- I am far from an expert since we have been denied SSI many times for Remi but I do recall that things such as furniture, a percentage of the mortage, in our case a percentage of our medical insurance since we pay it ourselves, food. Do you have the paperwork, letter or brochure that says that. And what kind of notice is that? 9am tomorrow? It doesn't sound right. you might even be able to find stuff on the internet about SSI and what the money can be used for. You fought too hard to get it. Don't give up.
