Guest guest
Phyllis: Good luch. How do others with other kids keep their EG child from picking up things. Clayton does not like to eat much but will put things in his mouth to taste. If something is on the floor he will get it. Any suggestions. I can always tell when he picked something up he should not have as his escema on his legs breaks out really bad within 24 hours. love, sharon mommy to Jake (5) and fraternal twins (3/30/97) - Cole -(nda) and Clayton (eosinophil gastroenteritis, food allergies, g-tube, Nissen and possible latex allergy, some dd and undiagnosed neuro issues)
Guest guest
After I made up my mind not to feed Arissa anymore, I cleaned out all the cabinets that she can get into. She got up this morning and asked for (rice) milk and we gave her the Neocate. She had a little fit but eventually drank it. She checked out the cabinets to see if we really had run out of everything. When I came out of the shower, she was standing there with a bag of frozen french fries. I didn't know she could get in the freezer! I decided to keep really busy. We went to the beach for a few hours, which we rarely do. I told her if she didn't drink more (to stay hydrated in the heat) we would have to leave. She drank. Got home and went to our neighborhood pool for a few hours. By this time, she was asking for rice and chips but with a chuckle in her voice. She knew I meant business. We went to a friends for dinner. The friend kept asking things like-isn't she hungry? Is the Neocate enough? Arissa didn't even ask for any dinner. We were making home made slushies or snow cones for dessert. I wasn't going to argue if she asked for one. She took one taste and got up and played. I said to the neighbor-I think that answers the question. If she were starving, she would have eaten it. In the end, she drank about 40 ounces of Neocate, took one nap and fell asleep for bed in 5 minutes. I am looking forward to tomorrow. Guest guest
Besides going into the freezer, I caught Arissa going thru the diaper bag this morning also. Arissa was never into putting toys and things in her mouth due to delayed oral skills. One of the best things she has is her two fingers. She walks around sucking them most of the day. Sometimes she wants a pacifer, which we gladly give her, considering the alternatives that she would choose. I make sure that Remi clears the table if she has eaten and try to make sure Remi doesn't eat in front of her. Remi has a little more sympathy, so wetry to emphasize how important it is that we keep a strict diet. Remi has a few food allergies so she understands. School has been much harder or at neighbors. I would go and have lunch with Arissa everyday this summer so when she was done her two bites, i could occupy her and distract her from the crumbs. I know if it is too quiet, chances are good she has found food. At 08:54 PM 8/23/98 EDT, you wrote: > > >Phyllis: > >Good luch. Guest guest
Phyllis, Sharon.. etccc We have a large famliy so this may be easier for us, but all the kids have seen first hand how sick Kody and get and how well he has been off of food. It is EVERYONE " S job to make sure no little droplets of food are left anywhere he can see. I have seen them dash into a room an pick up something from in front of him many times. Now, Kody doesn't even ask for food and it doesn't seem to occur to him anymore to put food in his mouth (it has only been about 3 weeks NPO now). He did ask for some cereal the other day and I told him it might make his tummy sick, that he should go play for a few minutes and then come back if he still wanted some.. of course, he wasn't really hungry so he never did ask again. another little trick I tried was bumping up his pump rate a little just before a meal that he used to really like (like pizza). that seemed to make him full enough --maybe a little uncomfortably full-- but he did not ask for any food SJHarlow@... http://www.c4isr.com/harlow
