Guest guest
Hi all: No sooner had Clayton been discharged from the hospital did we have to make an emergency visit to the St. s ER. Last night when the home nurse came over to demonstate the equipment and do vitals on Clayton he went balistic (SLAB). He would not calm down. We hooked him up to the pump at 8pm and he screamed almost non-stop unitl 8:45 when he finally calmed down and fell asleep (allbeit not a deep sleep). He was up screaming at 10pm (we vented him - an explosion came out) and rehooked him up. (THe nurse was there only to show us how to use the equip and do a visit). He then screamed on and off until 11pm. At 11pm Barry filled the bag and about 1/2 hour later Calyton started to get hysterical again. We vented him - some air but no explosion this time. However Clayton would not calm down so Barry picked him up and held him - this seemed to calm him and we put him back down (mind you he is sleeping in our room at this time). Clayton again got hysterical and we decided to see if he would calm down - he did for about 15 minutes and then got hysterical again. We agreed to let him cry for 15 minutes - however he kept getting more hysterical so I got up a checked on him and lo and behold - CLAYTON PULLED OUT HIS G-TUBE. THe surgeon half ecpected the tube not to last 4-6 weeks due to the fact that they had to use a silicon tube and not a latex one. (they had to put it in twice during surgery because it fell out the first time). got to the ER around 1:30am (they were expecting me as Barry had called to say I was on the way) and the surgery fellow (yes Dr. Putz) was waiting for us. He was able to get a tube in but we had to wait an hour for the radiolosit to get there to shoot some dye into the tube to see where it was. Once the dye showed the tube was in place they took it out and put in another one with a ballon and then blew up the balloon. He was then readmitted (to the same room) to ensure that the tube worked properly. They also put an IV in him (took 4 sticks to do it) so they could hydrate him as he missed most of his feeds. Around 8am they started to pump pedicalyte through the tube and around 11am they started the Neocate 1+ - clayton was very cranky I am not sure if it was from being overtired, the pump, or pain (but I suspect a combination of all 3). ANyway around 3pm they let us go home. Clayton was still cranky but we decided to go. Barry, being the salesman that he was has convinced our insurance company to provide 8 hours of nursing (11pm-7am) for the next week to ensure that the tube stays in and that he does not pull it out so that the hole can form and scar properly. It is going to be a long couple weeks until he can get his button. I expected him to pull it out - but no this soon. Oh well - my luck - if it can go wrong with Clayton it usually does. We now have to watch for fever and any possible infection. Well gotta run. Clayton is starting to rustle and is about to get up from his nap. BTW he is still refusing to drink his bottles (will take some juice by mouth) and will eat nothing but some cheerios. Oh well. Thanks for the support. love, sharon
