Guest guest
, I too think the sticks reference was to keto sticks. When I first encountered diabetes the only home test for sugar was glucose test tablets which you add to urine in a test tube. Then progress was made to sticks. Much better to work with but not worth anything. At that time there were keto sticks (for ketones) and that is still in use. Sugar does not spill into the urine until the bg is much too high. Keto sticks at that time was our life savor. Ketones can be deadly and keto sticks test for that. I have read postings from high carbers that are happy when there is ketones in the urine because they have eaten so few carbs the body is burning other than carbs. I personally believe ketones are never desirable (I'm sure I will hear back from this). I do agree that small amounts can be acceptable but again, to me, that is like be happy for a small amount of carbon dioxide in your air. If you can't get a blood monitor get some ketone sticks and if you have ketones check with your doctor. I have also read postings that say, " my doctor says no need to test " . To add to the " proactive " thread I say a doctor that says you don't need to test needs to be replaced with one that does. " Proactive " I call " survival techniques " . Sorry, but you will find MANY doctors know far too little about diabetes. Betty
