Guest guest
Dearest Tina, I took Actos for three years. For the first year I got fairly good readings then it went up to 235 to 350 every day My doctor kept me on it because my A1cs were 7.5 and she didn;t think that was too bad.Well for the next 2 years I gained 125 pds and never was able to get it lower. Weight gain is a strong side effect of both Actos and Advantia and I ended up having to take insulin after getting a A.1c of 9..9 Now I just take insulin and eat very carefully with herbal suppliments . My morning readings are 105-110 and it stays around 125 all day. My last A 1c was 7.2 after a year off Actos! Please don't try going off medication without the approval of your doctor... needless to say; it is VERY important to get a really good doctor! It really makes a differance!!!!!!! in respect, your new friend Celeste

Guest guest
Please don't feel bad about feeling frustrated, I think it's the name of the game so to speak! They still know so little about how to cure diabetes,I think we all are experimenting and being experimented upon to find out what helps....So mucho frustrations are allowed. I v.e heard that radiation can do more harm than good. I really feel for your situation. Please let me know when ever you need to say any thing at all in respect, your new friend,Celeste
Guest guest
Thank you Celeste, I appreciate your honesty. One of my big fears is gaining back the 65 pounds I lost when I was first diagnosed. I am still far from being thin though My Dr. knows I am off the Avandia, and told me if I gain more than 5 pounds I am to call him. He thinks water retention will be a problem and will want to change my diuretic to Lacex (Spelling?) I am not thrilled. Well, I know it's only a short time before I'll be on insylin anyway, so I'll try the Actos to please him, and if there are side effects, I'll tell him I want to try insylin. I have friends on insylin and they all tell me I'll feel so much better once I switch over and wonder what all the fuss was about. I hope they are right. This is so frustrating. I am blonde with fair skin, and we usually are so sensitive to medications. I had Graves disease 11 years ago, (Hyper thyroid) and that was the beginning of my downfall. I got an adrenal tumor I believe from the radiation they used to ruin the thyroid gland. I had to have the tumor and left adrenal gland removed 3 years ago. Well, thanks for responding and letting me go on about what's frustrating me. Bless you, Tina Eagleheart > Dearest Tina, I took Actos for three years. I've had no problems with either of them. Certainly nothing like what some people are saying about other meds. I don't really know why I was put on one med and not another. I'm down to the lowest dose of both meds, and my A1C is below the mid range. I was religious about my diet when I was first diagnosed, plus I walked twice a day, so it's hard to say what did more for my BG control, but it seems to be pretty good right now. Good luck with Actos. Ellen
Guest guest
GREETINGS -- Actos may produce side effects, such as water retention and swelling of the ankles, especially in older people. Other possible side effects include weight gain, muscle weakness, and fatigue. Actos' primary benefit is to decrease persons resistance to insulin. If insulin resistance is your primary concern you might want to talk to MD about Metformin/Glucophage that does not cause weight gain or edema; however it does have its own side effects that are usually temporary. wambo1941 > > Hi Everyone, My dr. agreed it was the Avandia side effects making > me > > sick the past 4 days, now he wants me to try Actoss. It does increase the effectiveness of insulin for me. Metformin (glucophage) limits the liver dumping glucose into the system and also can cause gastro problems in some people which may last only a few months for some people.
