Guest guest
Hello, My name is Jodee. I am 37 years old and from Rochester, NY, USA. I have been married 17 years and have two girls who are 15 and almost 13. I am a teaching assistant for high school students that are developmentally disabled. Diabetes runs in my family. Both of my parents had it and passed away at 59 and 62 years of age from Heart Disease and Pancreatic Cancer the same year in 1988. I myself had an A1c of 9.9 back in June of 2003 after being on steroids following having a brain tumor removed and also after several bouts of upper respiratory infections. I have lost 133.5 pounds. My current A1c taken in March is 5.3 I am on no medication. My A1c's have been 9.9 in June of 2003, 6.2 in September, 5.5 in December, and 5.3 in March. At this point I do not test my blood unless I feel like I am having a low. I exercise 6 days a week and my cholesterol is only 112. I have totally turned things around. I did not want to die young like my parents. I don't know what else to say. I have been writing my diet and exercise routines in my journal online at http://www.livejournal.com/users/jodee/ if anyone would like to see what I am doing. There are a couple pictures of my weight loss on my website in my signature if anyone would like to take a look. I look forward to helping anyone in anyway that I can. Guest guest
Hi Harry and , I have lost weight and gotten my A1c down to 5.3 by exercising my fanny off as it were. I exercise 6 days a week doing a combination of cardio and weight training. As far as food I stick to basics. I eat lean protein, veggies, fruit, fat free dairy, healthy oils and whole grains. I eat a very well balanced diet. I just don't eat any junk food. Everything I eat is healthy. I do eat light whole wheat bread but I do not eat pasta, potatoes or rice. There are some menus on my journal website, I have been posting what I eat there lately. But, I think exercise has helped more then anything else. People in the medical profession do not stress exercise enough in my opinion. Exercise helps burn calories, increase your metabolism and it also helps with insulin resistance and lowers blood pressure to. It has so many benefits. Hope this helps... Guest guest
Jodee, Thank you so very much for your posting. Like you I have been dieting, exercising and doing my best to manage my diabetes. My A1c's have gone from 9, 6.6 to 5.8 for the most recent one. Thus far I have lost 70 pounds with 20 more to go. This week has been my roughest one since being diagnosed as a diabetic in July 2003. I did not binge eat, but I was not watching what I was eating as closely as I should. Last night I got the highest BG that I have had in months. It was 150; my 2 hour post-prandial blood glucose readings after a meal are usually less than 110. This morning I got refocused and my numbers are again back in line. Your story/journey has only solidified my resolve. Regards, Debra > Hello, > > My name is Jodee. I am 37 years old and from Rochester, NY, USA.
