Guest guest
I don't buy the prepackaged meats either because most contain " natural flavorings " which I have been told at a FAN conference could mean that a milk component is part of the natural flavoring. Most Pop Tarts are now milk free. I have a box of Frosted Strawberry ones in front of me as I write this and they are definitely free of milk, eggs, nuts and citrus. If strawberries are considered a citrus fruit then the cherry ones are also okay. I also buy (at Fresh Fields) Frookie Brand Funky Monkey Vanilla Graham crackers which don't have any milk, eggs nuts or citrus in them. At Genuardi's I can buy Vermont Brand Soft white bread. It is pareve. It has something in it called " dry sour " which I think is a sourdough starter; I know it is pareve so it is definitely milk free but I don't know what is in a starter so I don't know if it is egg free. if you want to call them. Somebody on the No Milk List gave me a suggestion to buy Apple Valley Farms all natural turkey dogs. they are milk, eggs nut and citrus free and they don't have any chemicals, preservatives or nitrites in them . I found them at Fresh fields. They taste pretty good. I am pretty sure Genuardi brand loaf bread, hamburger rolls and hot dog rolls are milk and soy free. I doubt if they have eggs in them but maybe they don't and so they could work for you too. Sandwiches are tough for me to find something Matt likes and will eat. He loved liverwurst but right around the time he was eating it he had a bad reaction so I haven't given him any. He is okay with peanut butter but I know you wouldn't want to chance that with your little one since he is so young and already allergic. I just bought a canned ham and I am slicing it myself. It has nitrites in it but it is otherwise okay so I am trying that. Have you checked Ritz crackers? I know they are milk and soy free, but I am not sure about the eggs. If he can eat Ritz crackers then maybe you can put some fruit spread on them, or even little pieces of meat. I think I should have bought stock in McCain's brand french fries. I buy them at most supermarkets locally and they are a very common snack around here. Want to try a pareve variety of Spaghetti-O's? Fresh Fields has a new product called Grandma Millini " s Kitchen Organic Kids meals--and they have one product that is Organic Pasta Rings in Tomato Sauce. No milk, soy, eggs, citrus or nuts! Some choices include vegan franks in them. Some of the different cans DO have cheese in them, so make sure you purchase only the varieties that are milk free. Pillsbury Hungry Jack Buttermilk Biscuits are milk, soy and egg free. (Green can) NO BUTTERMILK is in them, even though that is what they are called! How about some pizza??? Pillsbury Pizza Crust works well. I use a jar of Pizza sauce (probably Ragu) and saute some onions, red pepper and ground beef and make it like that. It's pretty good, really! If you prefer the pre- cooked variety, I purchase Momma 's pizza crusts (they are something like Boboli only they are milk/cheese free). (I am not sure about the eggs, though) They are hanging on a rack near the dairy products and baby food in the Acme on Main Street. I make pancakes and waffles with the Red Box of Aunt Jemima which is milk and soy free. I use Almond or Rice Milk and eggs and oil. I don't know how an egg replacer would work but it might be worth a try. My son has pancakes every morning now! A very popular dinner for Matt, even when he was young was what we call " Mexican Meat. " It is sort of like a home made taco meat. I saute onions, red pepper, ground beef then add some chili powder and cumin ( I make it mild for his tummy.)He gets meat and vegetables that way. We serve it in a bowl but it would work with corn tortillas or corn chips as well. By the way Fritos corn chips are also milk and soy and egg free. I know they are not the healthiest things but they are something Matt can eat so I buy them anyway. That's a start! Double check all ingredients since the stuff may have changed since I last purchased them. And of course I don't check for hidden egg, so I may have included something on this list that has egg in it but you can check it out for yourself. Guest guest
In a message dated 98-06-11 13:24:01 EDT, you write: << Can anyone give me any ideas for snacks and dinner especially. Also, I am looking for a milk and egg free bread. Does anyone use a bread machine (Are they worth while)? Any sandwicj suggestions? The nutritionist told us to stay away from the deli counter completely because you can't be sure of what has been cut on the slicer. She suggested prepackaged lunch meats. I have hestitated because of all the additives they contain. >> : Go to Fresh Fields - They have rice bread and lots of other breads in the freezer sectin. Clayton cannot have egg, wheat or milk and the rice bread I bought has none of them. I have not tried it yet becuase Clayton has been refusing to eat lately but the ingredients work. Also how about rice cakes or popcorn cakes for snacks - they are crunchy. Clayton actually likes to munch on rice cakes - although I am not sure he likes them. Fresh fields has great foods and if you ask they will give you a list of products that do not contain milk or eggs. Sharon
