Guest guest
Hi we are finally back from the US. Got home last Wednesday afternoon have been catching up on things. Have just had a quick browse of some messages. Shona good to hear you're back but not about your second band--but glad to hear is going well. We'll have to swap tales!! Have read the note on converting previous surgies. I had a non-adjustable band (precursor to lapband) not stapling or VBG couldn't contemplate that. When I saw Prof O'Brien when having problems and seeing if I could have lapband, he said there was no problem and that he has converted many people who have had other forms of weight loss surgeries particularly the non-adjustable band (he never did it becuase of the problems that could occurr--ultimately the problems I had) and stapling. So for Orrie (?) who is investigating I'm not sure which surgeon you've consulted (if any at the moment) but it may be worth getting a couple of opinions (I did notice one message that said one surgeon won't convert people who've had other forms of surgery. I went to the clinic on Friday to get my band topped up as I had .6ml taken out prior to our trip. Was glad to see during the past 11 weeks I have lost 4 kilos all the walking we did!!!! was reluctant to give me a fill but before I left I was only stablising and the only reason I believe I lost was all the exercise and when I go back to work I won't be spending 8-10 hours out moving so he gave me .3ml. So in the almost 2 years (banded 15/11/99) I am now at my 2/3 goal of 96k from 148.1k--52k lost. Now my goal according to is to get to a BMI of 27 which is about 80k and I am considering tummy tuck 'cause this stomach just sits there and make me out of proportion for clothes buying. Looking forward to catching up with you all. Regards, Nadia
Guest guest
- what happened to Mattie? I'm glad the surgeon thinks it looks okay! How exciting that Drew outgrew his dairy allergy! I hope we all get to celebrate such a victory for our kids! We have, in addition to , a 6 year old son who I previously thought had no allergies.... but I'm taking him in for tests, specifically latex. A few times in the past, his skin would be red only in the area the adhesive band aid had been, for maybe an hour or so....I just thought he had sensitive skin like I do. But his skin stayed red for one week after a bandage has been removed recently , but no other symptoms. Who knows, but I thought I better be safe than sorry and have it checked out. We're not scheduled for the apptmt. for 2 weeks, but I've been reading a bit about it. Brittany - what can you tell me about Talli's latex reaction? I empathized with all of the stories about people being ignorant and not taking the food allergies serious enough. We wanted to leave our children at a gymnastics center for a few hours to let the kids play --- sometimes they sponsor such events for parents to have a night out, without their kids and they give the kids dinner, snacks, etc. -- and I told them about 's allergies. The woman said " we'll try to keep an eye on him, but there are a lot of kids here. " That didn't make me feel reassured. I always pin a label to , explaining his allergies and emergency directions, but if a 4 year old (who can't read!) offers him a peanut candy bar and he forgets to ask what's in it, we're in trouble! Then I wonder if an adult will even notice any reaction in him. Although he often asks what is in food before he eats it, he's a sweets fiend and it scares me. Needless to say, I can't leave him places like that. I don't have a large collection of egg-free recipes to share with any of you yet --- although I have been using the boiled down flaxseed mixture to use in cookies and cakes, with success. Allrecipes.com is a place I've been able to find a few ideas. Brittany - I just read your email about your trip to the ER with Talli -- how scary that must have been for all of you! Tell Talli we love her and hope she's doing well! AlyKatz -- congrats on your exciting--and sudden-- news about moving to NV! Guest guest
Mattie (who is 5) got into my scrapbooking stuff and was trying to cut a coupon from the back of a cereal box with an Xacto knife (which of course, had a brand new blade in it). It slipped and he cut his arm, just above the wrist, and needed 13 stitches to patch him up. They were concerned that he might have nicked a muscle or tendon so off to the surgeon we went. So far everything looks great! I was thrilled when we were given the news about Drew's dairy. It was very difficult to have both the dairy and the peanut allergies. It seems that if something always has one or the other in it. It sounds like might have a sensitivity to the bandaids. It might not be latex, it could be the adhesive (but it is smart to get him tested). We can't use Neosporin on Drew. It takes longer for the chemical burn to heal than what ever we were using it on. Dr. said reaction to polysporins is common. ----- Original Message ----- - what happened to Mattie? I'm glad the surgeon thinks it looks okay! How exciting that Drew outgrew his dairy allergy! Guest guest
Brittany, How is she with bananas and/or avocado? I know that both are on the cross reaction list with latex. I have an oral allergy to banana but it is the only thing on the list I react too (though nuts like pecans and walnuts cause a reaction too) ----- Original Message ----- component. She has had anaphylaxic reactions to cross-react foods to latex (the peaches & plums) where she was wheezing, got hives, and her face started to swell. I don't think a reaction to cross react foods is uncommon to those with latex allergies, but I think it is usually just oral allergy syndrome.
