Guest guest
" The Great American Detox Diet, " written by son, is very much the second installment in the " Super Size Me " franchise. Written by the girlfriend of Spurlock, the book purports to be the resource guide to the follow-up diet she planned for Spurlock to " detox " him after his month of eating solely from Mc's menu. On the down side -- the book is sorely inadequate as a detox plan or diet book of any kind. It simply does not offer an organized system for " detoxing " , dieting or otherwise. Although most of the information presented is accurate, the book occasionally dips into unsubstantiated factoids (such as reusing plastic bottles means risking the ingestion of toxins) and offhandedly mentions other things that cannot be supported with solid research...following up with a statement that the matter is still open to debate. In fact, son really doesn't support ANY of her " facts " very well. That said, there are just as many positive things to say about this book, if not more. son is a clear advocate of eating healthy, wholesome foods and this shows throughout the book. She is absolutely on point in discussions of what unhealthy, processed and refined foods do to the human body and how they do it. She gives recommendations for dietary change that are 100% on the money. The greatest value of this book is not in " shedding pounds in 8 weeks " but rather in the lessons it teaches. Those who have recently started traveling the road to better health through food will find this book a solid primer on what's going on inside their bodies and how to evaluate the foods we eat. It's a good read with a great deal of information.
