'Morning everyone from Rhonda in warm! PA! Finally spring has sprung,

it's been almost 60F here. WOW! Feels good on my cold feet...

I am just recuperating from knee surgery last Friday. My knee pops out

often, and when it got to the point where it didn't hurt anymore when it

dislocated, I knew i had a problem! I had this surgery back in '85,

(it's a temporary fix) and it seems to hurt much more this time than the

last. I guess I'm not a teen anymore! Does anyone else have knees that

dislocate?

Thanks!!!

Hi Rhonda and everybody,

I hope that you will have a good convalescence and a good recovery.

I had 2 surgery for each knee in the last 6 years ( 2 in 1996 and 2 in 1998) for

realigned and stabilized my patella. Now i don't have any trouble with

dislocation just with cartilage. Changes in the strength of my quadricep modify

the alignment. Than, the orthopedist surgeon suggest rest for 4 to 6 month with

swimming 2 times/week. After two months, the pain was less present. This period

of rest correspond fortunately with a period of work at home ( writing for

article and thesis, i'm a master student in biophysic).

It's good to read you every day

Have a good day

Hi Rhonda:

I had knees that dislocated all the time when I was a kid. I would just be

playing and bam, I was on the ground and it hurt like the devil when it

happened then would quickly pass. It always popped back in by itself except

one time when I had to go to the hospital and they had to pop it back in. I

finally had knee surgery to correct the problem back 24 years ago when I was

about 22. I really don't know what all they did but it did the trick because

it does not do it anymore.

Hope all goes well for you.

Hi ,

Keep the chin up - you're almost there now - just a few little hiccups along

the way! I'm sure there's plenty of people on this list who wish they were

at where you are at now and have their major surgery over and done

successfully. I'm sure your doctor will be able to sort this skin graft out

for you. I can understand you just wishing you were finished with it all but

you're 99% there!

We'll be thinking about you.

before you go back to lurking (only kidding) Could a few of you post what

you ate for lunch or dinner to give us some ideas. Also when you pick out a

recipe how many grams of sugar do you try to stick with? June

Hi June - Being D&E controlled I don't have to eat at regular intervals so I

often just snack. But for dinner tonight, we will have BBQ'ed chicken, salad

and green beans (my favorite). I put lots of great low carb stuff in the salads

but am careful about the dressings. I try and choose dressing with 1g of sugar.

As an example, I have Kraft Three Cheese Ranch dressing. It has 1 g of carbs

and 1 g of sugar. I also have Hidden Valley Ranch BBQ style which has 3g carbs

and 2 g sugar. If it has 3 or more grams of sugar, I won't use it as it raises

me too high.

Because I eat very low carb, I do not worry too much about fat or calories. I

don't think it is healthy to eat low carb AND low fat. You have to make a

choice. Now, I don't go off the deep end and eat bacon and eggs every day, but

I do eat red meat and I don't worry about the fat content. Interesting is after

doing this for 2 years, all my lab work is normal. It goes against everything we

have been taught. Eating protein high in fat has caused all my labs to come

into the normal range. That fascinates me - I would not have believed it if it

didn't happen to me.

Sometimes for lunch, I just have a salad; however, I always eat protein with it.

Usually I cut chicken into it.

Being D&E controlled is hard sometimes as far as choices go, but I like the

freedom of eating when I want and not being locked into eating because I have

to.

Hope this helps.

We use some splenda (like on strawberries) but on our food as a rule, we don't

use sugar. For lunch today I ate at a quant small town restaurant. I had a

rueben sandwich on dark pumpernicle and 10-12 chips with 1 beer. I know I had

too much fat in this meal, but we need to live once in a while. I took 16 units

of Humolog at this meal at about 3pm and I snacked on a few cashews during late

afternoon.......at 7pm I had a reading of 161....
