Guest guest
I took 3mg of melatonin for about 2 years, I can't say it helped me sleep any better, I still needed something else to help me sleep. But what I did notice is it gave me the weirdest dreams ever. I had some scary nightmares with that stuff. My Mom tried it in a tea and said she can't explain the feeling that came over her, but she didn't like it and gave it to me, I still have it and haven't tried it. Good luck and be careful.... Guest guest
Melatonin Okay guys, with my Disney trip just hours away and clear memories of dancing on the hotel bed on top of us in the middle of the night I finally broke down and bought Melatonin. I didn't have time to get the liquid so I bought a gfcf sublingual 1 mg tablet at GNC. Then I bought a 1.5 mg sublingual mouth spray at Whole Foods. Both are time released. I tested her last night. She wouldn't let me spray and it got all over her lips. (I can't even begin to describe the look of shock on my little girl's face.) So I gave her the tablet which she loved. She was up for about an hour and by 8:30 she was fast asleep. But, it wasn't a normal sleep. It seemed much deeper than usual and normally, once goes to sleep she is out for the night. So this deep sleep made me uncomfortable. I don't know what time she woke up this am but my husband said that she was already watching a tape when he got up at 6am. Okay, so now I know to keep her up later. But she was also so dopey this morning - she acted hung over and was so whiney. So, Dr. Carley, and the rest of you experts. What do you think? Did I overdose her? Or do your kids act like I described her behavior? Tonight I will skip the spray and test her again with just the tablet before we sleep in the strange bed tomorrow night. BTW, I also gave it to Ben who said he hated the feeling and went right to sleep last night. He seemed fine when he woke up at his usual time but he told me he doesn't ever want to take that pill again. Did Ben not like the feeling from the tablet and act so " high " because they weren't used to it? Or do all the kids act this way but it is better than the alternative behavior? I'm trying to figure out if my kids are acting like everyone else when using this hormone or if their behavior is unique. Thanks, Barb Barb, We tried the time-release Melatonin with similar results. It seemed to make her really cranky and sad. It did help her to fall asleep earlier, but didn't help her stay asleep. It also seemed to decrease her appetite. Guest guest
the mrm melatnoin (3mg) is very good, its time release and holds down, open the capsule and use like 1/4 to 1/8th you can also use the 5mg source naturals melatonin tablets cut way down like into 1/10ths, its fast release and can be used a knock out melatonin is also an anti oxidant and seems to be generally helpful though its better not to use it every night can significantly lower blood pressure while sleeping its very important to get decent quality melatonin, no-name stuff is not suitable. the lef time release and source naturals liquid are not suitable and have scd type digestive issues and in fact all the liquid melatonins have bad preservatives. > Does anyone know the reason that melatonin is on the illegal list? > With it, my son can get to sleep at around 2:30am. Without it, it's > more like 4am. I'd hate to have him give it up. > a H.
Guest guest
Jody, The legal/illegal list on breakingtheviciouscycle.com says that melatonin is illegal. That's where I got the idea from. Eli is 20 years old, and gets 3mg per night. He always had trouble falling asleep. When everyone else's kid was sleeping 12 hours, mine was sleeping 9. I tried everything- bedtime routines, warm baths, warm drinks, reading to him, soft music, everything. He just wasn't tired when I wanted him to be, and my inability to accept his body clock was affecting our relationship. I would insist on lights out, quiet, etc and he would lay in bed miserable for two hours. I finally gave up. Years later he took a test that showed he has high cortisol at night. The doctor said 'does he ever get to sleep?'. There are biological reasons for this problem. I had to throw away all of the childrearing books I was reading, because none of them worked for us. We're much better off now. I think his sleep problems will be solved when his gut has healed. It's my goal in life. a > a, > > Check the pecanbread.com website. > Melatonin is fine to use. > > 2:30 is still awfully late for him to fall asleep. > How much are you giving? > > Are you turing off all of the lights in the house after he takes it? > No TV, no lights of any sort where he is trying to fall asleep. > > Jody
