Guest guest
Everyone, Are there specific regulations regarding the transportation of special education students to their assigned schools? We received our placement letter from Macomb Intermediate Schools today, and it informed us that was being moved from Harvey Elementary to Fillmore Elementary. The reason quoted by the AI program's vice principal was that Fillmore was closer to our home than Harvey. I mapped out the distances from our house to both schools, and found out that the vice principal was incorrect on distance. Harvey is 3.78 miles from our home, and Fillmore is 4.17. He can go to Harvey, she said, but the MISD is unwilling to transport him, so we'd have to do so ourselves. That seems to indicate that Harvey should be his school of assignment, just as it was during the last school year. Do they judge distance differently than the rest of us, perhaps by bus route distance? If anyone knows the regulations governing this area, please respond and help me counter whatever MISD is trying to do. Thanks, Dan
