The gastro said that eosinophils in the stomach can indicate a milk allergy, also the lymphocytes in the small intestines can indicate a wheat allergy and we are going to do an antigluten antibody test in July to rule out wheat allergy. I was intrigued by the term " eosinophilic gastroenteritis " because this sounds (in terminology) like what was found on the biopsy. I guess I am here to find out as much as I possibly can. >> Hi Mel: Welcome to this loop. Clayton is allergic to milk, all daity products, wheat, egg and soy. His biopsy at 3 months showed a flattened small bowel (blunted villi) and the seconf showed a high eosinophil count. He is now on Neocate One +. He was on NEocate Infant formula since 6 months of age and was just switched last month. I know that folloiwng a milk free diet is also har. I have learned to read labels very carefully and have taken to shopping at organic andhealth food store. If you like I have alist of terms used on products to indicate dairy. Guest guest
Hi , had apnea episodes and was on a monitor until 16 months when thank God he stopped doing it. I had read a lot on apnea, and remembered hearing when the apnea monitor is not enough they used something called, and I am trying hard to remember the exact name, CPAP, continuous pressure air ???. Sorry, that is all I can remember. Maybe you can do a search about this. Clayton also wakes up a lot at night, not chokcing by screaming - we think do to reflux. During his sleep study in December, he had no real apnea episodes (so he was discharged from his monitor then) but refluxed ALL NIGHT. Kids of any age can have apnea - but they can be for different reasons - such as obstructive apnea (tonsils and adenoids) for central apnea (Brain). They can tell by the sleep study what type of apnea he is having. I have noticed that a lot of kids with milk protein allergies and eosinophil gastro are preemies. Does anyone know of this correlation? Sharon
Guest guest
Hi , used to wake up several times a night with choking and gagging. We thought it was caused by the reflux. Last October he had a bad spell one night and we ended up taking him to the emergency room. He was treated for asthma that night. He continued to have these spells until January when he again ended up in the hospital. This time the docs decided to set him up with a treatment plan. He receives nebulizer treatment daily and no longer coughs, chokes or gags at night. I know this is diffferent from the apnea but you may want to ask the doc about it. Guest guest
I just read your list and realize your son does have eosinophilic esophagitis. Please call your doc immediately and find out WHY they do not have him on fluticasone. It has been proven in two separate studies to work. It is an inhaler and the kids just swallow in stead of inhale. We had two of our five on the prednisone for two months, then weaned, because the FLovent (fluticasone) has been proven to work. Our kids are followed at Walter if your doc wants to call them about this. THey are also publishing their findings on our kids soon. Can you give me the cites on those two studies you are referring to? He is already on Vanceril inhaler for his asthma, I wonder how something like fluticasone for the GI tract and an inhaled steroid for the Respiratory tract would be managed concurrently in terms of dosages. Guest guest
Man oh man. I cant believe you are military and got that treatment. We are all seen in both clinics. Both the allergy clinic and the peds GI clinic are doing the report. Primarily, however, the kids are followed by the Peds GIs there. THey have one other kid too with eosinophilic esophagitis besides my 5. He too is on the Flovent inhaler and was successfully treated WITHOUT oral prednisone. Guest guest
To Lynda: Two of my five are also asthmatics. There is no problem mixing the bronchodilators with the fluticasone even if they were inhaled. However, the fluticasone is SWALLOWED so it would hav no effect on the respiratory tract (it only works where it is directly absorbed) SJHarlow@... http://www.c4isr.com/harlow
Guest guest
Hi, I have a question about the fluticasone. If I remember right you were saying this is being used on eosinophilic esophogitis(sp?), do you know if this would possibly work on eosinophilic gastroenteritis? Would it be effective once it got down that far(to the intestines, etc) ? Also, I have a question for group. Everyone, I think, knows my strong feeling about finally weaning off the Prednisone after a year. Well I wrote last week of our lovely trip to the ENT. She gives him ear drops and guess what they are, Prednisone! Has anyone ever used these? Our pharmacist assures me that VERY little actually gets to the bloodstream but I am thinking my poor baby is addicted to Prednisone and here we are trying to get him off( and believe me, we notice the behavior change during these weaning periods), and they are putting it in his ear. Am I over-reacting? Guest guest
Michele, I sure hope so. Right now he isn't acting mature at all! LOL He has been really trying lately and I am worn out. I guess I am just imagining having a baby right now and wondering how I would deal with it. Thanks for the reassurances. I am sure I will need more as time goes by. When I got pregnant with Rowan, Keely was nursing at least 3-5 times through the night and I kept saying "I can't nurse two through the night!" In our case, over the pregnancy Keely really cut down on her nursing, so much that by the time Rowan was born she was only nursing before bed every other night. Yes, her nursing did pick up when he was born, about two weeks after she realized "hey, that baby gets mum mums all the time! I want more too!" lol But, she only picked up to 3-5 times a day, that I could handle. Keely also learned to let daddy comfort her more, she actually cuddles him through the night now, not me! I'm glad none of my fears about tandem nursing came to pass, everything has worked out and we've been fortunate. I am glad I've had the experience. I think you will be surprised how much Zaid will grow and mature over the next few months, I know I was surprised. Michele Michele, I have to say this is what is worrying me. <My toddler is three today and still nursing at least twice a day, morning and bedtime> Zaid is three also but he nurses at least 5-8 times per day and sometime many more. He nurses to sleep most night and still wakes occasionally in the night (like last night). He adamantly refuses to have his dad comfort him in the night so I am concerned about having two that will be nursing constantly. I have also heard so many times that the toddler picks up nursing after the baby gets here. That scares me! LOL Any tandem nursers out there that have a high needs older nursling? My name is Lesli and I have a 14 week old daughter named . We are having a very positive experience breastfeeding, although we had some difficulties at first. I have a question...although I am not having regular periods, I am having regular times (when I should be having a period) that my breasts are extremly tender. Is anyone else experiencing this? I had a period for a day in October and nothing since... Give the Gift of Life Breastfeed! http://www.lactivist.com

Guest guest
Kim, very glad to have you join us! I've been on this eating plan for about 3 weeks now and was also put on by my dr Let me tell you - it is SO worth it! Just in 3 weeks i've seen some MAJOR differences in how i feel and the things i crave and even in how MUCH i eat! My BIGGEST pitfall was staying up after the kids and my husband were in bed and snacking - i don't do that anymore AT ALL, i actually go to bed at a normal time and wake up at a normal time, thus actually SLEEPING enough finally! I also was NEVER known to walk away from any food on my plate, now i pick smaller portions at home and if we eat out (which is VERY easy on this plan!!) i usually take about 1/2 of what they bring me home in a doggie bag! I lost 8 lbs the first 2 weeks, but my 3rd week only lost about .5 lbs, so DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED! .5lbs is .5lbs that i'll never see again and the trend of the scale is going down and that is what i'm looking for....anyway, enough blabbering, there are so many great people here who have lost a ton of weight and are just great sounding boards and have wonderful ideas, suggestions, and are totallly motivating - you are taking the first step.
