Guest guest
>> Plus, after getting a stress fracture from too much running, I shifted to roller blading, which I loved, until I broke my shoulder doing it. So now I just do boring stuff, . . . and I HATE it . . . except for the college courses I listen to on tape while I do it. (Except I'm puffing and panting, so don't test me on the subject matter because I doubt I retain more than 2/3 of it.) << Anne, have you considered off-the-beaten-path exercises? Cross-country skiing? Rowing? Kayaking? I've been playing soccer for the past couple of years, but I'm starting to feel it in my joints. (I'm 44, but have arthritis in my feet, and now the knees are going.) I think watersports, continued rollerblading (on the rare occasions it's dry enough) and hill-hiking are where I'm headed next. The cross-country ski machine and rowing ergometer (different from a " rowing machine " ) are the two exercise machines I can do without boring myself to death, for what it's worth. I alternate between the two, five minutes on each for half an hour total. I couldn't do an exercise bike for half an hour if you paid me, even with books on tape or television. And if you're ever in Seattle, let me know and I'll take you blading on a smooth, flat and generally rock-free ten-mile path. In the past several years, I've seen two coyotes, numerous bald eagles, blue herons, and one humongous buck while rollerblading. It's gorgeous!!
