Hello. I'm a new member. I've enjoyed reading the last couple digests,

especially the oatmeal thread. I use Quaker Old Fashioned. One thing that wasn't

mentioned in that discussion was what 'done' means. My great aunt told me I eat

like a shepherd, meaning nearly raw! lol I hate the 'slimy' texture so when

said his took a long time to cook, maybe he likes them more 'done'. I

boil the water in the bowl in the microwave, add the oats, nuke a further 20

seconds and they are done for me. Dunno, if that the matter of done-ness makes

any difference, but, just a thought.

I haven't really started the SB yet, but I've been cutting snacks, staying away

from white flour and sugar and using my new treadmill. I've lost 4 lb this week!

I am overjoyed!

I went to town yesterday (an 80 mile round trip) and bought what I need to start

SB. (good thing as it's snowing again this morning) and I think I even know

where my book is. I got sick on Atkins so that didn't work. Most of the rest I

tried worked, as they say, for awhile, but this time it's deadly serious. I'm

also glad I found this list and happy to see that everyone seems to be upbeat

and not whining about why they can't as so may so-called 'support' groups I've

joined have been. It's great to hear about successes and also the sharing of

recipes. I'm afraid I'm one of those who hate to cook, even tho it's my 'job'.

I tend to throw together a meal, rather than plan one and ignore any recipe with

more than 5-6 ingredients. I'm trying to do more meal planning, too. I've been

collecting crock pot recipes, thinking that might help.

As for personal details, I'm a senior, heavy all my life, need to lose over

100lbs, diabetes in the family, married and cook for dh as well as his 101 year

old grandmother who lives next door.
