Guest guest
Sorry things aren't so great here. I talked to our GI doc who only had this explanation about the undigested food. He said the prednisone keeps the irritation down and if the irritation is back then, the food is not being absorbed like before. OOOH, I am soo tired of this. My hopes are quickly getting crushed. Dr. Bornstein said he would recommend a g-tube and an elemental diet. I am wondering if maybe that is what is best. I am just soooo tired. Guest guest
Dawn-Sorry to hear that isn't doing well. Our life is so much better with just the elemental formula-if that is any consolation. Arissa started school today and of course she took the Gastrocrom 1,2,3 for the school nurse. Why can't kids cooperate just a little bit with the parents?? The doc called about the lactalose. He said that this med is only absorbed by the stools and you can't get an allergic reaction to it-unless color or flavors has been added. The pharmacy filled the script as a generic. The doc called and had it refilled with the brand name. We will try again. The doc was so excited that Arissa would take the Gastrocrom with little problem. Only time will tell if this will work. I, too, can join the crowd of moms who knows 'goodnight moon' by heart along with many others and i also know the teletubbies by name. I really liked both those poems! Phyllis-mom to Arissa (12/22/95) EG, multiple food allergies, occasional asthma Remi 6, Spina Bifida, developmental delays, allergies-nuts, shellfish and latex
Guest guest
Sharon - protein suppliment - Cheramino and other protein suppliments are available from Curran at vitalady@... - yes, she is in Tacoma, but she will ship. Janet - naming the band - you are tooooo cute. Callie - Dr. - Try calling Dr. Fox at in Tacoma WA, he used to be president of one of the bariatric associations, and perhaps he can give you some insight to Dr. . Helen - set point theory - I just wanted to add that I am experiencing the " Set Point Theory " . I lose several pounds then without increasing my eating, I stop loosing. The first couple of times I hit these plateaus they only lasted a couple weeks, now they are lasting six weeks or more. I was getting very frustrated at trying to figure out why I couldn't get off the plateau when I realized that I had been at that weight many years ago; AH HA, a " set point " . Actually, I can even remember each diet I used to get off that set point, then ended up gaining the pounds back plus more to make a new set point. It is like studying my own history. - venting - DITTO Shouldn't we always get a second opinion on medical advice anyways? Jessie - when the famine comes - Y2K? I'll have enough protein powder to last me a year, now if I can just find enough water to mix it with. (o: Quotes - I'd love to give you one a day, but I'm stealing them from another on-line friend and just passing them on as she gives them to me. Glad you like them. Caloric calculation; maintain weight = current weight x 10 calories? - Whatever. I personally believe it is all theory, as my personal experience has never agreed with this. I once went on a 500 calorie diet, lost 5 pounds a week the first two weeks, then proceeded to gain 2 pounds a week for the next five and maintain my original weight there for several more; all to the screams of nurses who said I was cheating, when I wasn't (lots more abuse). In reality, WHO CARES! - THE BAND IS WORKING FOR ME AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS! (o: Addicted to food? - Websters defines addiction: 1: the quality or state of being addicted (to devote or surrender to something habitually or obsessively). 2: compulsive need for and use of a habitforming substance characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly,: persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful. YUP, I'm addicted. A lot of eating (overeating) was habit for me - automatically making huge quantities of food then eating all before it went to waste; eating because I knew (thought) it tasted good; allowing smells of foods to create cravings that I satisfied; not feeling hunger but allowing the time of day to convince me to eat something; not knowing when I was full. My thought process is changing. I'm not sure I credit it all to the band itself, some credit goes to me. Many things I'd heard before and ignored are now part of my life; chew-chew-chew, eat slowly, taste the food, cut it into small pieces, make smaller portions, throw away uneatten food. Heard them, ignored them. Now I taste the food, if it isn't tasty, I toss it (and yes Jessie, I like the taste of my protein suppliment (o: ). It is still hard to cook only one egg rather than 2 or 3, but I hate to throw food away, so cook only one is what I do. I am picker about the food I eat, I spit out food that is too tough or doesn't taste just right, and I do leave more on my plate than I ever thought I would. I wanted control of my eating - and the band is helping me do that. Most certainly if I forget, it doesn't. (o: - Debie Boyd
Guest guest
Debie, Regarding setpoint, wow, what a revelation!!! I'm doing exactly the same thing, I just kept thinking that maybe my band needed another fill and then I'd drop a pound or two. I too get temporarily stuck at previous setpoints, I'd just never figured it out!!! Now I can really pay attention to them and maybe go for an extra walk or go hit golf balls into the lake!!! Thanks!! Hey how's the horse doing??? T.
