Yes, there is definitely a Relapsing Polychondritis Foundation, and I am sure you will hear from Colleran very soon. Guest guest
Hi Lori--your skin is generally more sensitive between photoderm treatments, especially during the first few weeks. It's probably not the time to try new products. The redness should dissipate shortly after you stop using the irritating product, though. It's probably okay to use a topical cortisone for a few days (per Dr. Nase), but that's about it. I used some for just two days after my last photoderm treatment, because my skin was a little irritated, and it did seem to help. I used Aloe as well, so I guess it could have been either product or the combination. > i experienced a skin reaction ( allergic reaction) to a product ( > shisideo blotting papers )this weekend/ I thought the product was > plain paper but turns out it contains plant extracts and sulphur. > > so on sunday and monday i was burning and red. > yesterday and today still red, but not as bad except for one spot on > my left check and the bridge of my nose. > > all of my capillaries are much more pronounced than before. > > I had received my second photo facial treatment approx. two weeks > before this happened. > > what can i do > > please give advice > > will it take some time for the redness to dissapate > i have never experienced this type of redness before ever > > i have mild rosacea. > > the derm told me to use some hydrocortizone cream but i assumed that > would make it worse so i have been using aloe vera. > > > > thanks for responding > > > lori
Guest guest
I never vomit during my attacks, even when my lipase is over 15,000. I don't know why, I just don't. One doctor suggested I stay at home during my attacks and medicate myself, since I didn't need IV fluids for dehydration. Good, idea, except you can't get anyone to prescribe IV meds for self-administration. Jerry/NC Please help Can I have pancreatitis again and not vomit or become diaphoretic? Guest guest
I have type 5 hyperlipidemia which is a fancy phrase for chronically high triglycerides due to a genetic metabolic defect. I had my 1st attack of pancreatitis in 97, + it was caused by my high triglycerides (about 1800 also). I now have chronic pancreatitis + am on disability for it. After you develop chronic pancreatitis, there's no real way to differentiate between an acute attack or your " normal " pain because the pancreas enzymes no longer elevate. Before the chronic phase develops though, a rise in amylase +/or lipase indicate an acute attack of pancreatitis. in AZ. -- On Tue, 20 Aug 2002 00:17:26 desertbubbles wrote: >I had pancreatitis in 1996 due to elevated truglycerides, over 1800. >I know that my triglycerides are now over 1000 again. yesterday >morning I awoke with severe upper mid abdominal pain that reminds me >of the previous attack. Guest guest
Yes, you can have an attack and not vomit or have diahhrea, I've only had diahhrea once in all my attacks (over 20) and I only vomited in about 1/2 of them. So yes, it's possible. Severe abdominal pain is the main criteria that I know of. Everything else varies per person. If it feels bad enough to go to the ER, then go. the longer you wait, the more damage you are causing to your pancreas. Kimber -- Kimber Vallejo, CA hominid2@... Guest guest
You can definitely have pancreatitis without vomiting. My last two acute attacks involved almost no vomiting. I think I actually vomited once or twice after being in the hospital. Please help I had pancreatitis in 1996 due to elevated truglycerides, over 1800. Guest guest
Hi, Don't worry about the " nothing by mouth " bit. It's a little annoying at first but you get used to it. Or at least I did and I'm (or was) a big eater. As for the Nose Hose, I'm like you; I hate it with a passion. You probably won't get one unless you are vomiting or can't stop vomiting. I can't believe that the last time I was in, I actually told the nurse that if I didn't stop vomiting, I would need a hose. Nausea sucks. Guest guest
Hello adurb44. I am 10 days post-op. I had my upper jaw moved forward. I also had a surgical assisted palate expansion 15 months ago. I have had braces on for a couple of years. I stayed over one night for observation on the upper jaw surgery. I was not wired, but woke up banded. The OS wanted to see me in his office as soon as I was discharged from the hospital. He removed my bands that day and then my orthodontist seen me a few days later and put back on 3 bands. I feel lucky though. I can imagine how difficult it is for those who are wired. I was not swollen very badly following either surgery. Today I actually put make up on and did my hair. I had to take my cat to the vet so I thought why not see how I look with make up on. I am actually very happy with the results. It is great not to have an underbite anymore. Now maybe people will stop saying " smile " or " whats the matter " lol. I am just still a little swollen. My ortho said I the rest of my swelling will probably be gone in a week. I have been drinking a lot of instant carnation breakfast. I think they taste a lot better than the boost or ensure. I just mix it with fresh milk. I used to work at a hospital and one of the dietician's told me that the instant carnation breakfast has all the vitamins and minerals that the ensure does but it is a lot cheaper. I also am drinking a lot of juices. I got the zip and squeeze but have not had to use them. For protein, I eat tuna salad a lot. I also drink green's first. It has the nutritional value of 10 servings of fruits and veggies. I hate salads so I rely on my greens first a lot. My regular doctor told me about it. It does not taste bad either. Go to the greensfirst.com website to check it out. I would advise anyone going in for sugery to take along eyedrops, vaseline for your lips, and your own pajamas. Also, make sure you have a clipboard and pen so you can write in case people can't understand you. Believe me, you want to be able to let the doctors and nurses how you feel, or if there is anything you need. I had a headache even though I was on morphine and I had to write it down because they could not understand what I was saying since I was banded and swollen. I you crave any fast food...I have been eating a lot of KFC mashed potatoes and gravy. I also get the frosty from s. Soups are my friend too. As for the insurance...I have BCBS and they paid all of my first surgery and I got a letter from them about this current surgery and they said that it was considered medically necessary, so they would pay for it if I had it done within a certain time period and my OS does the surgery that he indicated. I never thought this time would come when I would be on " the other side " . I am 40 years old, so if I can get through all of this then I am sure you will too. If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask away.

Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I'm sorry you had such a scary event. I found myself in the emergency room on New Year's Eve with chest pains that ran from my chest to my neck and hurt when I breathed. I had awakened the night before and sat up in bed and it felt like I had a knife sticking in my chest. I also frequently get the wierd heart beats where it feels like it stops then skips then bang starts racing. Happens almost every day. Anyway, all the tests at the hospital came back " normal " . I also told them about my mito problem and got a lot of blank looks. I think that my problem that day was due to the mito, because I had been having a great deal of pain in the muscles in my neck and back (more than usual) and I think it just migrated to muscles in my chest. The only way to really tell if you have a blockage is to have a heart cath which I am not going to do right now. You could also get a echocardiogram: Echocardiogram is a painless test that uses sound waves to produce pictures of your heart's walls, chambers, and valves. It is similar to the sonogram used to " see " a fetus in its mother's womb. The test takes less than an hour. Echocardiograms can also provide information on ejection fraction, or EF, which is a measure of how efficiently your heart is working. It is, simply, the fraction (portion) of blood in your heart's chambers that is ejected (pumped out) to the rest of the body each time your heart contracts (beats). I find that if I sit down and focus on my breathing, my heart usually settles down rather quickly. I am guilty of not breathing properly a lot of the time, and I have found that I actually stop breathing sometimes when awake until my heart starts doing a tap dance and I focus on breathing properly again. I believe that since my muscles are messed up and always tired, sometimes I almost " forget " to breathe. Also, you may have panicked when you had the arm and chest pain (I get a lot of panic attacks so I know what that is like) and that may have caused you to hold your breath, or not breathe normally which could have caused the fainting feeling. I also have a hard time when I try to get up from a supine position. This usually happens in the morning. I have found that I have to sit on the edge of the bed for a few minutes because I am always dizzy when I first get up and have a problem getting enough air. I practice breathing techniques until all the problems pass, and only then do I stand up. You may have gotten up too quickly from the couch and not compensated with increased air intake (very easy to do). I have done that a number of times until I almost fell over each time and learned to take it slowly with a period of intentional breathing technques. If you keep having these episodes despite focusing on breathing, you may consider seeing a cardiologist for additional tests. Good luck. Lea Hi everyone, Last night I had a very scary episode happen. At about 1:00 I got up from the couch from lying down, I was watching TV, to go let my dog out to the bathroom. I was standing by the sink when my right arm started hurting increasingly bad, it then went to my chest and I swear it felt like my heart was stopping and flipping, I then got very nauseated and everything started going black. I grabbed hold of the chair at the table and bent over to keep from passing out. I made it into the couch and threw myself on it and couldn't move for two hours. Today I went to the emergency room and all the heart tests came back normal. The doctor was in a hurry even though they were not busy. I asked him what he thought it could have been and he said he didn't know. My sister mentioned mito to him and he didn't seem to know anyhthing about it nor did he question us about it. Something happened last night. I live with the pain every day but this was different and extremely scary. Has anybody else had anything like this happen and what did it turn out to be? Thank you, Debbie
Guest guest
Debbie, I am sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time. I have never experienced exactly what you are describing, but I have had episodes where I feel like my entire body is vibrating. My ears and body seem to be hyper sensitive and it has actually caused to me go into a panic attack, which I take meds for. I have never quite found out what this is, but I know how you feel when you know something is wrong and the tests and docs are no help! Feel better. I am glad to read that your cardiac tests were normal, that was the first thing I thought of while reading your post. > > Hi everyone, > Last night I had a very scary episode happen. Guest guest
Debbie, Hi, Back in 1996, long before I ever suspected I had any kind of MITO, I was working one day outside mowing and stuff and it felt like an elephant sat on my chest and I had pain in my chest and down my left arm, and I got very weak and had trouble breathing. I was taken to the emergency room by the Fire Department I was also a member of and they found absolutely nothing outside of that they said I had an enlarged left atrium...which now appears to be normal. I have never had really anything like that since then, just an occasional chest pain from the front of my chest to the back. Also, 2 and a half years ago I had a part time delivering newspapers at 4:00 a.m. I got up out of bed, stood up went to take a breath, and then collapsed because I couldnt' breathe in...I could barely breath until the ambulance got there and they sat me up on the cot. But all the tests came back normal. They said that I probably had pleurosy. I asked my neuro about that two weeks ago and he said that most likely my lungs and the accessory muscles around it were weak from the apparent mito that I have. I would talk to your neurologist about it because your heart is a muscle and is affected by MITO like any other muscle in your body. I hope I could help with what I told you. mitomomtoo mitomomtoo@...> wrote: Debbie, I am sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time. Guest guest
My daughter has had a couple of episodes where she just starting running through a store and felt dizzy and not herself.
