Guest guest
Hi Phyllis. This is Shana's mother in Milwaukee. Shana has been hospitalized with her son, Yissie for over a week now but should be returning home tomorrow, hopefully with good news. I'm getting together a suitcase of " pure " rice cereal, noodles, etc. to send with a traveler to Israel but I'm having trouble finding the pop rice. According to Miriam that's most important. I've contacted most of the health food stores here and no one has ever heard of it. Do you get yours through the internet, and, if so, how long does it take to receive it. Hope AJ concurs her most recent difficulties. I know Miriam loves to talk with her. Enough babbling...I try just to monitor the list to increase my knowlege of the disease and to help the kids all I can from the states. It's very difficult having those you love being sick so far away. Any chance of you coming along to a meeting some time? It'd be nice to catch up. Esther - do you happen to know whether is planning to attend next week's meeting? And do you know whether she only comes when she's invited, or if she just shows up if she feels like it? See you on Tuesday. Take care, . Guest guest
, The abdominal cerclage involves your Dr. either making an abdominal incision or doing the surgery laproscopically and tightening your cervix at a much higher point, using a polymer suture. This provides greater support for the cervix during pregnancy. Once you've had the ab cerclage it is necessary to deliver your baby via a C-Section. I don't really know much about the other types of Cerclage because my ab was placed before I had experienced any loses due to the fact that I had 2 cervixes and had surgery to remove one and the septum that went through my uterus and vagina. My Dr. knew I had an IC even before we started to try. That's why I went directly to the ab cerclage. I had my ab cerclage placed pre-pregnancy on 3/15/02. I got pregnant in June of last year. I gave birth to my full-term baby boy on 2/11/03. My ab cerclage is a true blessing and has allowed me to enjoy my Miracle Son and actually dream of more babies in the future! Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks Kara for responding. I finally found a few good explainations online eventhough I had a rough idea about the difference. I guess what scares me is the thought that I may have to suffer another loss before they'd consider doing it abdominally. Of course, the complications of abd. scare me too. I'm not sure what my docs will recommend when the time comes. More and more decisions! I was in nearly the same situation in May. They thought I had a huge fibroid on top of my uterus and scheduled surgery for June. I was agonizing over what could happen with that surgery and thankfully it disappeared before they did it. Specialist said that a bicornate uterus can show an effect like a fibroid on x-rays and he believes that's what they saw. Shewww!! It's one thing or another with me all the time!!! But thanks for sharing with me. I'm so happy that things worked out for you. Congrats on that baby boy. I miss mine terriblily. He lived for 2 hrs on his own and I cherish that time. We want so much for another but it's very scary. I had all the faith in the world with the first one and I hope I'll be as strong this time. I'll keep everyone updated on what happens with me. Guest guest
Hi , So sorry for your loss. I feel the same about the idea of suffering another loss. I´ll schedule an appointment with my doctor and will ask him about the ab cerclage. Let´s wait to see what he is going to tell. I´ve lost my son at 24 weeks, last February and a again lost another baby at 11 weeks, four weeks ago. Too many losses for just one year! In this second loss, I already knew that I had IC and my cerclage was scheduled to the 12th week of pregnancy. But, I started dilating earlier, on 9th week, and ended having an infection which caused miscarriage. I just can´t stand any more losses, so I would like to go the safer way, ie, the ab cerclage. I´m also worried about the complications of this surgery, but, participating in this group I´ve seen so many successful stories, that gives me more hope. Let´s see if my doc will agree with me. I hope things end fine for all of us, and we all have our miracle babies. Guest guest
I'm so sorry about your loss! I completely understand it being one thing after another with Dr's. I went through 8 years of surgery to correct my reproductive abnormalities. At first they thought I had a bicornate uterus because I had 2 cervix and that is very common. Turned out that I had 2 cervix and a septum through my uterus and vagina which is incredibly abnormal! Anyway along with all of this I had severe pain, which they THINK was because blood was backing up monthly causing me the pain. Anyway the only way they saw to get rid of the pain was by removing the septum. When they went in to remove the septum they realized that one of the cervix would have to be removed, making the other incompetent. The physical pain went away after the surgery but then the emotional pain set in when they told me I would probably never have kids! I know what it's like to go to the Dr's and have every Dr. come in to take a look because your case is so " rare " ! I used to joke that my GYN was my best friend. I saw him more often then some of my friends! My pre-pregnancy ab cerclage surgery was very uneventful. I was back to work 1 week after I had it done. I had been through so many surgeries before that though I guess I knew what to expect. I cried before the surgery and almost cancelled so many times but I realized that if I wanted to have a baby then I had to have this done. All of the stress and worry was worth it though because 3 months after I had the cerclage placed, I was pregnant and I carried to term! > Thanks Kara for responding. > I finally found a few good explainations online > eventhough I had a rough idea about the difference. > I guess what scares me is the thought that I may > have to suffer another loss before they'd consider > doing it abdominally. Guest guest
HI W The vaginal cerclage does have generally a very high success rate (worldwide average is around 80% I beleive) and of course it is dependant on the different docs and how high etc they can get it, plus the type they use. A Mc is generally the weaker of the vaginal cerclages and is placed lower, and a Shirodkar is placed higher. Some doctors are even doing modified abdominal cerclages grom the vagina but cutting up through the vagina wall to get the stitch placed high. The abdominal is done through and incision in the abdomen and a mersilene band is placed right around the top of the cervix where it enters the uterus. It does necessitate a ceaser at birth. The risks for an abdominal is generally bleeding (although most docs will tell you with the new procedures, they haven't had much blood loss in many many years) as well as uterine rupture, but that is VERY rare. With a vaginal there is also the risk of nipping the sack although this is less if it's done preventatively before the cervix starts to change. There is also the risk of infection which I believe is a lot lower with the abdominal although I don't have stats on that. Best of luck with whatever route you go. Have you signed up to Making_miracles or Incompetentcervix at yahoo??? They both have many ladies with vaginal cerclages as well and they might give you more hope in terms of a vaginal??? Best of luck Shona dzpunkie wrote: Hi everyone! I'm so greatful that I found this site. I'm ttc#2 1st found of clomid 50mg. I lost my first baby in March at 21.5 wks. The concenses was cervical failure (plus bicornate uterus)and have discussed with perinatalogist having cerclage this time. The problem is that I didn't know there are two types. This has not been discussed with me. My reg. gyn did mention that there is a procedure where they remove a muscle from your thigh and wrap it around your cervix but they don't do it much anymore. As of yet I haven't found a good description of how an abdominal cerclage is done. Can you please explain the difference to me. Now I feel that I have more questions for the docs and again I'm worried about the outcome. The peri doc said that the cerclage gives 95% chance of having a survivalble term baby. After seeing your experiences I wonder how true that is. I appreciate all of your help. You are all verry wonderful people. I was wondering what the doctors have told you about restrictions and what you can and can't do. My doctor really is not knowledgeable on the ab cerclage. She is just doing my 2 week check ups until we get close to the due date. She only put a no sex restriction on us. The doctor whom done the cerclage is 3 hrs away. I haven't only seen him/her once since the operation. They never did say anything about restrictions only to take it easy for the month after the cerclage was placed. > There were 2 doctors that put my Ab Cerclage in around the 12 week of pregnancy.
