I know everyone doesn't agree with me on this, but I use about a cup a day in my

shakes (1/2 c at a time).

However, it is of paramount importance to get the one with no sugar. There are

only a couple brands out there that have a no-sugar-added version. I think one

of them is Westsoy. If you like your soymilk sweet, you can always add

sweetner. Some people say it tastes more like the soymilk they are used to if

they add vanilla.

Is soy milk an acceptable alternative to skim milk? It's lactose-

free.

They all seem to vary. I found a sugar free variety, called Soy

Slender, that's pretty good. Last time I went to the store they were

out of that one, so I got Silk brand, and it has 6 g of sugar in 8

oz. It's less than half of the sugar grams in skim milk.

MILK/DAIRY

(2 cups allowed daily, including low-fat or nonfat plain yogurt)

Ok, let's try that again. ;)

Low-fat milk (fat-free and 1%)

Fat-free 1/2 & 1/2 (less than 2 tablespoons)

Low-fat plain, vanilla, or sucralose-containing soy milk (4 grams of fat or less

per 8 ounce serving). Be sure the product does not contain high fructose corn

syrup

1% or fat-free buttermilk

Low-fat or nonfat plain yogurt
