Kay,

I got the information from some articles in a book I got on

pancreatitis. It doesn't say that smoking alone causes

pancreatitis, but smoking with drinking is. Also, they say

in one of them that most of the people who get pancreatitic

cancer were people who smoked. It wasn't a high percentage,

but enough to be wary. If I ever get them scanned in, I'll

forward the articles for you. Of course, I can't currently

find the book because it's some where in the mess of my

computer room.The book is:

Pancreatic Disease: State of the Art and Future Aspects of

Research. It was published in 1999 based on a conference in

Germany in 1998. Editors: P.G. Lankish and E.P. DiMagno. A

friend got it for me on Amazon.com. Expensive little bugger.

Jerry,

I'm sorry if I came across as a smoke hater. I don't hate

them. I just happen to be allergic to them. And I had read

in some articles that I've got that smoking can also cause

pancreatitis and I think that if a person is going to do

something like smoke, best to do it with both eyes open. I

have friends who smoke and I don't pester them. They are

grown adults who are fully capable of making their own

decisions on if they want to or not. My friends are nice

enough to make sure I don't get hit with the smoke, which is

what I'm allergic to. I don't particularly like being so

dizzy I can't stand up and puking all over the place.

That really sucks...there are so many things that I would have like

to have known way back when...I am absolutely amazed at how

much I would smoke whenever I drank. Literally one after the

other. Kinda grosses me out even though I still smoke (not

nearly as much though :-) I find it funny how I NEVER have heard

anything about the pancreas until I had this attack--ever. I've

been told what I thought to be everything you could possibly

know about the effects of alcohol on the body and the worst I was

told was that it effected the liver and I could get chirrosis when

i'm like 60 or so!!! And I'm only 26........sigh......

Yeah, I figured it was bad enough getting it from CP, I

didn't need to add to it.

Same here. It is very low profile illness. Very few people

even have a clue what it is and how it affects you.
