Is anybody using Stevia? Tell me more about it. I bought in a Health Food

Store here in Colorado Springs and it seems pretty good... but I don't see

anybody writing about it.... >>

I use it but my uses are limited. I am trying to learn more about it since I

would rather use it than aspartame. Right now I use it to sweeten coffee and

in things like shake mixes and desserts. I have not tried to bake with it

yet. I am not real good at converting it from sugar quantities to stevia.

It is a great product though at least from what I have been able to tell so

far. Teena

I think most of us are using Splenda and love it. I have heard of Stevia but

never tried it. Does it have carbs? Does it come in a powder form or just

liquid?

It has no carbs and comes in both powder and liquid form. I use the liquid

right now. It is 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar and comes from a shrub.

It has a bitter taste if you use too much and some people even think it

tastes like licorice (sp?).

It is sold as a supplement in health food stores because the FDA would not

approve it for use as an artificial sweetener even though it has been proven

to be safer than aspartame. There are several other countries that use it

and have used it for some time now. But the makers of Nutrasweet have the

FDA in their back pocket and the FDA could really care less about what is

truly safe for our use. Ok, I shouldn't drag politics into this but just

wanted to let you know that is why you will not find it as an artificial

sweetener nor will you find it in any diet food. If you are interested there

are lists on Onelist that discuss Stevia or Steviva, which I believe is the

powdered form of stevia. Teena

Personally, I hate anything that tastes like licorice... ick... so,

Actually, I do too. I really hate licorice but Stevia does not taste like it

to me. Just some people say it does. I personally like it and would rather

use it. Splenda is another good choice. I really wish that I did not use

aspartame at all. I just love diet soda though. I plan on ordering diet

soda with Splenda when I can. Anyway, Stevia is a pretty decent sweetener if

you either don't think it tastes like licorice or you don't mind licorice!

I use Stevia for my shakes, I have the disolving tablets. It kinda tastes

like sweet and low, I am not sure, but I think it is 0 carbs. It is all

natural, actually an herb.

It was kinda more that it had an anisette " aftertaste " - oh well, I don't

like it... I'll stick with equal and sugar twin until I pay off a bit on my

credit card and can try the splenda stuff. I don't use it for much besides

coffee anyhow!!
