Guest guest
Dawn, Let your home teachers help with this. There are food programs that are common for autistic. children. Don't try to do this all at once or all by yourself. I'm sorry, there is absolutely no substitute for Cheerios - I'm still looking for it because my daughter loved them. There is a cracker that sort of looks like a Ritz called Bi-Agult but honestly, I don't think you will be able to switch from the real thing to that one. There has to be some time in between so he'll forget what Ritz tasted like. Have you spoken to your home instructors/coordinator? This won't help in the moment but you should consider having him looked at for oral motor therapy. If you look in our archives you will find information about evaluators called Sara . He might have some sensory issues that need to be addressed. I don't know what to say about going hungry. I couldn't do it for . I had my teachers feed her all the time (breakfast, lunch and dinner) till she started to accept a limited variety of foods. Barb

There are plenty of good chocolate chip and plain vanilla GFCF cookies available. We used to give my son little pieces of a chocolate chip cookie for reinforcers. You can buy " Frookies " or " Pamela's " Choc. Chip cookies at the health food store or and Miss Robens mail order catalog has an easy ready-to-bake GFCF Choc. chip cookie mix. I also get several kinds of cookies from the Miss Robens catalog. They have Chocolate and Lemon " sandwich " ones (like an Oreo). Hopefully, someone will post something that will work for you! Guest guest
Will he eat pretzels? There are some decent substitutes. When he was a baby he ate the gerber biters but nothing since. I ordered a bunch of cookies online and will try them. I'm going to take Barb's advice and let the therapists feed him the new stuff. He ate canned pears in pear juice for one today and he had never done that for me. Guest guest
Actually the therapists tell me likes to work for tickles. One therapist really doesn't give him to much food and just tickles him for a motivator but I want to find something as a back up. So far we are using the pears but I am giving them something new each session to see if he'll eat different things for them then for me.
