She's Huge! my own little 5 month old preeI was wondering how big the other 5 month old babies are on this list? My "poor little preemie" is a whopping 20 pounds and nearly 27 inches! She has gained 2 pounds in a month and grown nearly a full inch. This seems incredibly huge to me. She is so chunky and very well filled out. I have always let her lead on when to nurse and she makes it very clear if she is interested or not, but I am wondering if I am offering too much or doing something wrong??? Guest guest
You are doing what is PERFECT for your baby!!! Feeding on demand is exactly the way to go, and a breastfed baby will never over feed herself! My was 24lbs at 6 mos, so I can sympathise! Congrats on such a healthy baby! Guest guest
My guy is little, he was weighed at 5 1/2 months and was 12lbs 10oz. He has a congential heart defect which is part of the reason he's small, heart babies work harder to exist and burn more calories. He's still on the normal charts for height and weight, just near the bottom, and meeting all his milestones so there is no concern at present. Guest guest
Congratulations, (and daughter), Isn't it great to do it yourself?!! You are doing everything just right. Guest guest
Thank you all for the encouragement. Yes, it is very satisfying to know that 100% of her growth has been dependent upon me. After the very rocky start that we had, I am thankful. I guess it is just so easy to get caught up in the comparison game and that causes you to doubt what you are doing. I did measure her length today, and it appears that not only has she gaine nearly 3 pounds in a month, but she has also grown almost a full inch! That just seems so mind boggling to me when I think about it. I wouldn't know how to change anything, so I won't. She is not on solid foods yet, and I don't see ANY reason to start anytime soon. Thank you all on this list for being there to support us in our times of need! Yours,
Guest guest
My daughter Sarabeth will be 5 months old on Feb. 14th. A week and a half ago she weighed 14lbs 8oz, (up from 13lbs 14oz a week before!) and was closing in on 26 " . We believe she's closer to 27 " now, and a good 15lbs +. We'll know for certain this Friday. She's long and lanky, but not thin. I know by 5 months I was 20lbs, and I'm of average weight today, so I certainly wouldn't worry! - mom to Sarabeth http://www.3bittersweet.com/sarabeth
Guest guest
I should say that I am also 5' 9" and DH is 6' 2", so she does come by her length honestly. I was just comparing her current size to her sister's, and was not 20 pounds/27 inches until around 9 months old! In her defense, her birthmother is only 5 foot tall so she will never be very tall herself. We laugh about having "the long & the short of it" in our house, visiting the extra tall & the petite sections whenever we go shopping. All in all, I happen to think that DD (both of them) are perfect for who they are! I am also glad to know that Bethany is not the only baby who is so big for her age. At least I know that if she gets sick & misses a few meals, it won't hurt her at all - LOL!!!!
Guest guest
Since we are discussing weight and length ; here is my 4 month olds last results (this past Friday, and he just turned 4 months) 18 lbs and 27 1/4 inches. Big boy! BUT, I am 5'9 " and my DH is 6'4 " so both kids will be very tall. Dayne is exclusively breastfed. Re: She's Huge! > My daughter Sarabeth will be 5 months old on Feb. 14th. Guest guest
My little runt was 13lbs 13 oz at her 6 mo check up. Full term, regained birthweight +3 oz at 1 week. It's funny to see a baby that tiny scooting across the floor, sitting up, turning around and trying to pull herself up. Oh well... L.
