I stayed in the hospital only 3 days the 25 to the 28 and had no complications. The hospital stay was relaxing except for the barium test and the methalyne blue ink test, and oops almost forgot when they removed my drain tubing that was freaky to say the least and it hurt a little too. Guest guest
Hi Carol, Assuming you are having the surgery done laproscopically, then you surgeon sounds more on target, but it also depends on what you do in your work. If you do a lot of physical work where you are lifting, etc., then it very well could be 4 to 6 weeks. Guest guest
I wanted to hit the gym too, but the dr said wait for the full six weeks. I also had an open. You have a more liberal dr sounds like. I was able to go back to work in three weeks, but wish i would have taken at least 4. If you can take more time, please do yourself and favor and take it. We just went thru major surgery, why rush it. No need to push your body. Just my opinion from my personal experience. Lori - MI Open RnY 8-1-03 -24lbs > I stayed for 3 days. Guest guest
I had an open prodedure and stayed 4 days. I am 90 miles away from the hospital and asked to stay the extra day or I would have been released at 3 days also. I went back to work at 3 weeks, i am a high school teacher. I know the other women that had surgery with me one got the go ahead at 4 weeks, but the other has been encouraged to wait the full 6 weeks. I will be honest with you. I didnt ask permission to go back. I had my procedure during the summer so i didnt use any sick time, so i didnt need to inform my employer about the procedure or when i could go back. Like i said in an earlier post, i wish i could have had one more week at home. It was a hard week and I am thankful for the 4 day weekend. I was very active after my surgery and drove myself home from my one week post op checkup. I also attended all my kids functions etc. You will be fine and you will keep busy too. Good luck to you and i look forward to reading more about your journey. Lori - MI Open RnY 8-1-03 -24lbs > My doctor/nurse indicated that I would be out of the hospital the third day. Guest guest
Hi Sherrie, Your message hit home for me. My son went through a very similar story. The ear infections, antibiotics, tubes and the speech delay, this is how it all started for us. My son will be 4 on the 14th of this month and though we have known for about a year we just received a actual evaluation that he his mildly autistic. It has been a year of hell for a lack of a better word, but I'am so glad to have been put in touch with this group. Since August they have taught me SO MUCH, I think you will find such great resources here and other people who know exactly where you are coming from. Aside from getting informed, being accepted and understood has been a god send. What school district? We just had our IEP and it went pretty well. What kind of class are your boys in? Guest guest
Hi Luna, I can't help you with your question on insurance, but I just wanted to welcome you to the group. There is plenty of good information here and you may find the answer to your questions in the archives. Eventually, someone will answer your question, but if not, feel free to ask it again. Not everyone checks in to the site everyday and the person who has the answer for you may not have seen your question. I just wanted to let you know that we are here for you, so please don't feel neglected if your question doesn't get answered right away. Again, check the archives for insurance...there is a lot of information there. Welcome again and feel free to ask any and every question you may have. Happy holidays, Smooches new to group Hi all. I am new to the group. I will have orthognathic surgery to correct an open bite late next year. I have a PPO health plan. My oral surgeon's office has told me that my particular insurance company generally only pays about 15% of the total cost for surgery. This makes me very nervous. I have just enrolled in a flex spending account through my employer, which will help, but I am so afraid that I will be stuck with a massive bill. Does anybody have any advice? Is there a way to appeal to the insurance company to pay more? Thanks much!
Guest guest
Luna- Double check by calling your insurance company and ask them how much they cover for this type of surgery. My surgeon's office first told me I would be responsible for 15% of my total surgery bill. That didn't seem right to me, so I called my insurance (also a PPO) and they told me the surgeon's office was wrong, I was not responsible for that 15%. I was only responsible for the co-pays for office visits and any extra x-rays that my surgeon needed. I'm glad I caught that, I saved myself A LOT of money!! Hope this helps!! -Beth ----Original Message Follows---- Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport To: orthognathicsurgerysupport Subject: [Orthognathic Surgery Support ] new to group Date: Tue, 25 Nov 2003 01:25:49 -0000 Hi all. Guest guest
Definitely check with your insurance company directly. While I love my OS, he does what he does in order to make a living and I think they all have some kind of game... First some background....My OS is part of a group practice that accepted my intial insurance, but due to job changes midway through my orthodontic treatment, I was forced to change carriers. Everyone in my OS's office was on my new PPO plan except for him. He pulled some strings to get on the PPO plan in order to do my surgery, which I was very grateful for. But it was not all out of the kindness of his heart. He said I was the most complicated case he ever had and I know he had been looking forward to my surgery, so it was just as much about not wanting to turn my case over to someone else. Long story short, at 6 weeks post op I got a check from my insurance company for $12,785. It was 85% of my surgeon's fees for the upper and lower jaw surgery. Of ocurse he submitted for the full amount and only received 85%. Well, somehow the check was made out and sent to me by mistake so I called his office and suggested that rather than wait to straighten it out and delay their payment, I could sign " Pay to the Order of Dr. B " on the back of the check and drop it off to them. His staff was very grateful. At my next appointment with him he tells me proudly that he got paid for the surgery and that he is going to absorb the remaining 15% of the bill. I don't know how I was able to keep my big mouth shut, but I wanted to remind him that I, too, am a health care provider and that I know for a fact that in order to be a member of a PPO you must agreed to accept their standard and customary fees. Therefore, he was paid in full and there is technically no 15% remaining! In addition, it is against the insurance company's participating provider ethics to ask the patient to pay the difference and he would be kicked out of this PPO if he engaged in such practices. Instead of embarrassing him, I thought about how many more visits I have before I am done with this ordeal, smiled sweetly, and said " How generous and kind of you Dr. B! " See, they all have some kind of game. I did, however, inform him that he got paid by my endorsement of the check, otherwise he would have had to wait that much longer! The nurses and doctors were amazing. I hope you do not mind me saying this but, I want to say thank you for caring for our little ones. I think it takes a lot of love to do what you do and I look up to you for that. at the same time you understand the risks of having a preemie baby. It must be hard to go to work at times. You know that some preemie babies live but are mental and physical handicapped. I am sorry that you had to go through that. I cannot imagine losing a baby and workin in the NICU. The ad cerclage has given me a second chance. I am entering the grey zone on Tuesday. I have been on SBR for 4 weeks and continue to be on MBR for 6 weeks. my cervix on the last visist was 4 cm long. I am laying around as a pre-caution until I am in my 30th week. You probably will not be able to work after the surgery b/c of standing that long. I wish I knew of a doc in your area but I am from Florida. What week did you loss your babies? Mine was 25 weeks. Did you go enter PTL? I did. Have you had a vaginal cerclage before? I had two. Again I am sorry for your loss. I hope this group will be able to answer an questions you have.i hope you are having a nice weekend. God bless, Taryn new to group Hi, I'm Shay. I lost my 2nd little boy in Oct. of 2002. I lost my first in 2000. I've just started looking into having an abdominal cerclage done. I live in the Washington, D.C. metro area, and I'm having difficulty locating a doctor that performs the surgery. Would anyone have any information on doctors in this area. I also work in a hospital, and part of my job includes working with premature babies. I sometimes find my work unbearable because of this. I think I will have to stop working when I become pregnant, because my jobs requires that I be on my feet upwards of 8-10 hours. I dont really know what to expect from having this surgery.(Will I have to be bedridden, risks involved, sucess rates) I am glad to have found this group. There is so much information available. I welcome any information. Thanks Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to the Yahoo! Terms of Service.

Guest guest
Shay, Welcome. I am sorry for your losses. There is a list of doctors on the abbyloopers website. I don't know of any personally as I am in NC. I was actually born and raised in andria, VA. I truly believe in the ab cerclage. After 2 losses I have my little miracle. My ab cerclage was placed at 11 weeks. This is a great group. Ask any questions you have. Love,Brayden Austin 06-02-03}Angel{ Trustin Cody 07-17-02}Angel{ Cheyenne 6-12-00 new to group Hi, I'm Shay. Guest guest
Hi Shay, Welcome to abbyloopers. I am glad you found this site. Sorry to hear about your babies. It must be very difficult at work. I can understand a little. I lost my baby boy on 8/22/03 at 22 weeks due to IC. An attempt to place a emergency cerclage was made but the water broke during surgery. I also work with premature and special needs infants doing home visitng. I've done better than I thought going back to work and seeing babies but lately it has gotten to me. Last week I saw a 24 weeker and a 27 weeker who are both doing very well considering. I also saw a full term " product of a cerclage " . Some of these visits just hit home so much and make me whish for my baby so bad. I am lucky to have an understanding supervisor but there is no avoiding preemies or similar situations to mine. It must be very difficult for you being in the hospital with premature infants. Do you have other options when you get pregnant? I am sure the emotional and physical stress would not be good. Some go on bedrest but not all have to. I am not pregnant now but plan to soon and will get the abdominal cerclage. They say the success rate for and abdomnial is 90% and the success rate for a cervical cerclage is 85%. Guest guest
Welcome Shay I am so sorry to hear about your losses. You have certainly come to the right group that will provide you with abdominal cerclage information. The procedure is a c-section procedure which can be done pre or post pregnancy. I chose the pre-pregancy and it went very smooth. I was home 2 days after the surgery and walking around at home that week. I did choose to stay home for an extra week since my cycle started and that is where I felt a bit more discomfort than before. If you choose, you may start to ttc by the 3rd month after the surgery. This procedure has excellent results as you might have already read. Most of the women in this group have normal pregnacies and work throughout the pregnancy depending on the job. Other that go the post-preg way need some extra recovery time since the baby is already in the womb and could put pressure on the cervix. Recovery either way is not bad. Welcome and God Bless! Rosie(Tx) 2 early preg. Angel Cesar 06/01/02 Angel Mia 03/27/03 Ab Cerclage placed 07/20/03 will ttc soon
