Guest guest
My doctor/nurse indicated that I would be out of the hospital the third day. The doctor indicated I would be out of work for 2 weeks, the nurse indicated more like 4 to 6 weeks. So which is it? Can I get some feedback from you guys on your hospital length of stay and time off from work? I am a workaholic and I'll go crazy if it's 6 weeks....LOL Carol Matar -------------------------- Sent from my wireless handheld New to Group Hi everyone, my name is and I live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I had Lap RNY on 8/21/03, so I'm a newbie still. So far I've lost about 20 pounds. I have my first post op appt next week so I'll know the exact number by then. Overall this experience has been good so far. The first few days afterwards were not too pleasant but I paid close attention to doctors orders and I was released from the hospital on the fourth day. I was thrilled to go home and each day feel better and better. I'm still on protein shakes and liquids for the most part. I look forward to different flavors again next week when I go to soft solids. It's great to read everyone's posts in here and I look forward to learning alot from those of you that have had this procedure done longer. Guest guest
I stayed for 3 days. Shoot in 2 weeks I was back at the gym. 3 days seems more realistic. Barring no complications. Guest guest
Hi Carol, The length of hospital stay depends on if you had LAP RNY or OPEN. LAP(which I had) you're in the hospital 3 days (my surgery was on Friday, 7/18/03 and I went home on Monday, 7/21 at noon). Open is usually around 5 days, I believe. As for time off, it depends on what you do, but I have a desk job and I've been out 6 weeks so far and won't be going back until around 8 weeks. Don't fret, I wanted to be out this long. My doctor wants each patient out a minimum of 6 weeks, due to the fact you need to get use to your new system and your new eating habits. She's had patients go back 2 - 3 weeks after surgery only to be back to their old ways of eating and they have lots of problems. For me, I wanted the break from work. I have a high pressure job, which I love, but knowing I was having the surgery during the summer I said what the heck, enjoy the time off. It's the only time I'll have time off to myself without having a baby (I'm single with no kids). Just talk with your surgeon about what he/she recommends about taking time off. I'm sure they'll listen to your concerns and maybe you can compromise. A lot of people on this site don't stay out as long as I have. Again, it depends on your surgeon and your schedule. Good luck!! I stayed in the hospital only 3 days the 25 to the 28 and had no complications. The hospital stay was relaxing except for the barium test and the methalyne blue ink test, and oops almost forgot when they removed my drain tubing that was freaky to say the least and it hurt a little too. Lori Anne post op Lap RNY 8/25/03 274/266 as of today holy smokes LOL goal is
