However, it would seem to me that an adequate substitute for Ghee would be

canola oil to

has a heavy

butter flavor -- albeit somewhat recognizably artificial if you use too much.

Possibly not,

though, in combination with the spices normally used in Indian food. As for

sweetness,

there are a variety of sugar substitutes and everyone has a personal favorite.

Undoubtedly

I will run contrary to advice of those here into completely natural foods and

flavorings.

Those, actually, are my preference. But you're asking for substitutes, and seem

fine with

the fat-free half and half, so I took the liberty of suggesting our techno-age

replicas at the

risk of offending the tastes of some. Take it only for what it is. If you want

REAL Indian,

substitutes will never work. But to get you through until you lose the weight

and can

afford to go back to REAL Indian, you might want to try the various

alternochemiques.

Subject: Indian Food

I absolutely love Indian food but I'm having difficulty finding

recipes that don't use Ghee Butter, cook everything in oil, (usually

vegetable or peanut), sugar/brown sugar, coconut milk and cream.

I could substitute cream with Fat Free Half and Half but I don't

think I can use Olive Oil without changing the taste of the food. And

I have no idea how to replace Ghee butter or whether Splenda will

work in place of the sugar...and, of course, coconut milk is way too sweet.

So I'm looking for ideas for substitutions as well as any Indian

recipes that don't require any of this. Maybe some creative way of

using Indian spices, a sweetner (Splenda?), fat free half and half to

sprucen up some meals.
