Guest guest
<< I've only recently been introduced to oral motor therapy as having different benefits that speech therapy. Do you, or anyone else out there, have the name of someone good in the area? I called Center for general info. Is it necessary to go there specifically? >> Jacki- As you know, I do think you should go to for an evaluation.
Guest guest
Jacki- Yes, we see Lori Overland also, she really knows her stuff (she is even a little more expensive than the other evaluators since she specializes in autism.) We brought the speech therapist from Sawtelle to watch the evaluation and to be taught the techniques (that was a total waste) but you can also video tape to see exactly how to do the feeding etc at home. Since couldn't make it to the eval she watched the tape with an SLP and that combined with Lori's written plan helped her create a simple good oral motor program for all our teachers to follow. You might want to ask Danny's speech therapist from Valley to attend with you (if you go) so the plan can be carried out in school too. Barb << I only go to Sara for the evals. It is pricey for the initial eval, but followups are $175.00 which isn't terrible. We see Lori Overland when we go there. She's really familiar with austism (Sara does alot of down syndrome, stroke, etc.). They are the best in oral motor evaluation (IMHO). She also generates a very easy to follow implementation plan (I think it was an additional $50 added to the initial visit, but I wouldn't go there without getting it). This plan can be understood and followed by any SLP so in the event your child moves or gets places in school, or a situation occurs where you have to change SLP's, you've got a game plan. It's also a good tool to have when requesting services from your Child Study team. Many SLP's won't charge you an " initial eval " if you have an updated Sara Report, so it may even save you some $$$'s. Anne >>

Guest guest
Barb and : Thanks for the advice about . I understand they have an evaluator in Manhattan. Once I get an appt, I'll ask you for the therapist's info. By the way, is there a particular way to " disguise " any of these tests and/or treatments to get HMO's (like MY Oxford) to pay for developmentally related work? Guest guest
: Remember us: from Tenafly and Danny is almost 4. I guess we'll try to pursue the route, as suggested. But let me know if you have someone good who might work well with him before we get an appt (is that advisable?). Thanks. Jacki
Guest guest
Bridson from that office works one day a week in NYC which is easier to get to. I also recommend these people. Guest guest
Jacki Of course I remember you sometimes it's hard to put a face to a name on E-mail . I will ask my speech therapist if she has any time . I would suggest you go to and get evaluated though. I will see you at arts and crafts Wednesday.
