Hi COCO, , and All,

I've probably spent 10 times that amount trying other stuff, so it's

not the twenty dollars that's a problem.

Will probably buy the book also, because I don't want to miss even the

possibility of finding relief on a more consistent basis than is now

happening. I admit I'm somewhat resistant to you , because I

perceive an unwillingness on your part to share specifics. I guess

that makes good business sense, because unlike the rest of us in the

group, your motivation is to sell your ideas, not give them away.

some of the things you say, like not being able to answer questions

until we know more, and barely covering expenses, just don't sit well

with me. I don't mean to be rude or put your ideas down. If your book

helps, it really shouldn't matter how you go about presenting them, or

whether you profit financially.

Just some thoughts in the middle of the night.

Hello Lynn,

I too, am having a DS with Dr Booth. I guess your questions kinda

depend on where you are in the process. I take it if you haven't

seen Dr Booth yet you don't even know if you'll be approved yet?? In

other words, has he written a LOMN yet to your insurance co? If you

haven't gotten insurance approval, I don't see the need to rush out

and start getting these tests and things that he will require of

you. If you are local in MS, he will probably refer you to his

psychologist of choice, otherwise, in my case, since I am out of

state, I called the local WLS Dr and asked his staff who he referred

to in my area that is familiar with the WLS psych exam. There will

be other tests as well that he will need: Upper GI, bloodwork,

gallbladder ultrasound, etc, but I'm sure they'll go over all that at

your consult. I actually had the first half of my psych test today.

Answered a bunch of questions about whether or not I tend to take

responsibility for my life or blame my problems on others!! LOL!!

etc etc. . .That was pretty easy, took a little over one hour. Then I

go back next week after he mulls over my answers and talk to him, i

guess. I'd better pass!! LOL!! Hope this helps! Good luck and Many

Blessings,

Lynn, Many of the doctors have someone in particular that they send you to for the psych evaluation; I am not sure about Dr. Booth. I would wait until after your initial consult. Bring any records of previous weight loss attempts, particularly doctor supervised (i.e. MDFAST, Optifast, Phen-Fen, Meredia) also information about comorbities (other conditions caused by your obesity such as sleep apnea, arthritis, hypertension, diabetes, etc.). Good luck to you. Sandy C, RN

Hi Lynn -

I forgot - if you have any specialists who support WLS it doesn't

hurt to have them send LOMN (especially if you have ANY co-

morbidities). It sometimes helps speed the insurance process. I got

them from all my specialists, bless all five of their hearts.

Lynn:

Dr. Booth almost surely has his own requirements on a psych evaluation. Do NOT get one ahead of time as it might well be wasted. If you have been seeing a psychologist or someone it would be a great idea to get a report from them on your suitability for the surgery but don't think that will take the place of whatever Dr. Booth might require.

Lynn-

It doesn't matter when it is done, as long as its done by a

psychiatrist instead of a psychologist. That's his only requirement.

Also, you might get a letter from your internist (MUST be an

internist) clearing you for surgery. The rest can wait until

post-consult. Good Luck!

Hugs,

Liane

Lynn-

It doesn't matter when it is done, as long as its done by a

psychiatrist instead of a psychologist. That's his only requirement.

Also, you might get a letter from your internist (MUST be an

internist) clearing you for surgery. The rest can wait until

post-consult. Good Luck!

Liane

  • 5 months later...

Hi everyone,

here's some information I found out that might be of help to those being

sick.

Since this second ml, I am sick almost every dinner time, after the first

small bite, and then I am fine.

Saturday I went out and had a bit to drink for the first time since being

banded really (in total about 1 bottle of champagne over 5 hours). As I was

in less control of my eating habits, I was picking away at the salmon dip

with pieces of lebonese bread. By the end of the night, I had been sick

about 4 times....stupid me.... Terrible headache, dehydrated etc. I couldn't

even keep down a soluable panadol! I've never been like that before being

banded.

Then on Sunday, I still couldn't eat a single thing. I was so sorry for

myself last night! Tired, hung over, no food, hungry etc, etc.

Today I was fine, and could keep breakfast and lunch down. But I rang Kim

Duffield, the support nurse for Dr. Fielding and she said that

after you are sick, you should stay on liquids for 24 hours, until you're

stomach settles down. I never knew that, and thought I should share it with

you all. This would explain why I couldn't eat anything yesterday. She also

said that my stomach might spasm when food first hits it.

Looks like I'm now a non-drinker, which my liver will appreciate,

hope you're all well and happy,

Gabby

Thanks for the info Gabby. I got a 24 hr tummy flu and really needed to

throw up but I was unable to. It was more than dry reaching and I could

feel that what ever was attempting an escape, was foiled by the band!! It

was a bit scary so I went to the nearest hospital and got a

maxilon(spelling?) injection. I was much better after a very short time

(about 5 minutes I think,) but even now, two days after, I still cannot eat

very much at all and feel ill after but only for a short time after eating.

I am seeing my surgeon on Thursday (600 kms away!!) for a fill and will

discuss this with him. I look at it a bit philasophically though... if I

can't eat, I will reduce my weight a bit more!! I think my body was telling

me I should be on liquids though because for the last two days, I have been

craving soups! It would seem that your doctor is on the ball with

revisiting the liquid diet for a while.

Regards

Judith
