I only ask because I looked into it down there and was told that there was no one that anyone would recommend. Is he very well known for the op? My GP knew at no hesitation that he was the one in Ballarat. I see him tomorrow, l will ask. He told me 8 months ago he had done enough to be confidant and happy with the procedure. I don't know how many there has been in Ballarat. After tomorrow l will make a firm decision about having it done here or in Melbourne, it's just here is so much more convenient. After read lots of ozband posts l have a heap of questions for him that l didn't know to ask last time l saw him, so l will see how it goes. Guest guest Posted April 2, 2001 Report Share Posted April 2, 2001 Laureen It would be a thousand times more convenient to have the op there instead of Melb. I checked up about a year ago but that doesnt mean anything really as my old doc(he is now retired and living on the Gold Coast) was old and very opposed to WLS. Just as you would with any surgeon check him out and talk to other patients that have had the same op. Ask for references as such. Its major surgery no matter what and I wouldnt place my life in someones hands I didnt trust. I havent actually met my surgeon yet but I have checked him out thoroughly and have talked to tons of his patients, alot of them on this group. I may be down there in a week or so, we should maybe catch up and have a coffee. Where as in Melb it would surely be a lot more difficult especially if you have kids and a job. Because my first visit with him was just initial conversation we didn't get into alot. He answered all my questions and gave me a book to read and said to get back to him if l had any other questions or queries, l quite liked him and felt he was very positive about the surgery. The only thing l didn't think much of was that he said it would be good if l could loose a bit of weight before the surgery, derrrrrrrrr. If l could do that l wouldn't need him.
