Guest guest
I just joined the group because I saw a few messages in the archives that really hit home. One huge one was an exchange about hand licking and teeth grinding. There was some speculation that salt cravings are related. Has anyone had experience and success with any of these behaviors? Its making me nuts! Karin
Guest guest
Karin, Some of the best advice I got from this list had to do with my child's teeth grinding. This was one of his first behaviors that showed up at about 24 months. He just turned 3 and the edges of his front teeth are all nicked up from the past grinding. Luckily they are his baby teeth. Or DAN! dr has him taking 50 mg of Zinc Monomethionine a day. When I read that teeth grinding can be caused by a zinc deficiency, I made sure he got his two capsules a day religiously. I am happy to say that he has not grind-ed his teeth the past 2 month. Thank goodness, because it was like nails on a chalk board! Good luck, karinhepner <khepner@...> wrote: I just joined the group because I saw a few messages in the archives that really hit home. Guest guest
Hand licking and teeth grinding....would someone mind explaining this a little more briefly to me....are these signs of Autism? I have a child who we thought had a different problem, but I just saw these last two posts, and hand licking (or other object licking) and teeth grinding is something she does alot! Thanks. Guest guest
" Our kids " have a lot of signs that are also found in typical children to one degree or another. From what I've gleaned from the lists, lots of oral activity like teeth grinding, biting objects, licking etc, can be caused by mineral deficiencies. Kids who are not autistic can have mineral deficiencies, too. Kids who are not on the spectrum can have mineral deficiencies that cause teeth grinding. Try giving your daughter extra minerals and see if the behavior disappears. If it does, continue to give her minerals, since obviously her diet is not providing her with what she needs. Good Luck! Guest guest
Thanks, . I've already crushed the zinc and now i am waiting for him to wake up so I can give it to him the second his eyes open...I cant take that grinding anymore! 3 questions: 1-were there any side effects of the zinc and 2-how long did it take before you saw and efffect, and 3-has anyone had an experience where their child could not metabolize the zinc properly? Thanks so much Karin Re: [ ] hand licking and teeth grinding Karin, Some of the best advice I got from this list had to do with my child's teeth grinding. Its making me nuts! For many kids, hand licking is zinc deficiency. For my #3, he did it when he ate a food or supplement he did not tolerate, or when he had a yeast problem. For my #1, teeth grinding is lack of zinc and cal/mag. Dana
Guest guest
Dana, how do you know how much zinc/ca/mg to supplement with and how long does it take for you to see results? We will do testing, but I am not seeing our doctor until the end of the month. I am nervous about overdosing, especially with mg (and I'm told too much zinc can cause hyperactivity). The teeth grinding is going to send me through the roof. Karin [ ] Re: hand licking and teeth grinding > I just joined the group because I saw a few messages in the archives > that really hit home.
