Has anyone's child done this behavior where they hold their hand in front of

their face, palm facing them, and bend the fingers at the knuckles and

watch?

What is this and what causes this?

Theresa,

My son started this behavior at around 15 months when we started

thinking something might be wrong with him. We did not know what it

was either. Now we know that it is his form of " Stimming " . One of

his Autistic like traits. He does not do it anymore, but has a

couple of infrequent, different stims now. He is 32 months old.

I have heard it stated by high functioning autistics, that they did this as a

child and remembered the neat ribbons or streams of colors that their fingers

made in the air. I believe it is called finger flicking or finger flashing. My

son (just turned 3) does it occasionally for the past 6 months only when he is

tired. What it would be like to just live one day in their bodies!

Best Wishes,

My son did this when he was about 2.5-3, then he would show them to

me, and it was like he wanted me to fix them, at the time I found it

rather obsessive/compulsive, it would go on for hours, drove me

nuts.Never figured it out, finally stopped.

My son did this for about a month. He also made a strange corresponding face.

It just went away.

This was the beginning of my son's visual stims. He required quite a

bit of anti-viral intervention, plus several other things, to get rid

of it.

What other things and what anti-viral did you use. How long did it take to

eliminate?

Here is what I have done so far

Additionally, I have discovered that adding a multi-mineral back into

his supplements has helped with visual stims and a few other things.

I would say it took me over 4 years to finally figure out the

combination of things he needs to keep the visuals away.
