Guest guest
I am not the one who said anything about Atkins. Don't recall who it was, but it wasn't me. What I said was that you are misreading/misapplying the Good Carb book and that you cannot go by that alone. Here is what I meant. Certain things in the Good Carb book are very specific, such as " Cheerios. " Other things are nonspecific, Such as " veggie burgers. " Not all veggie burgers are the same. When something is nonspecific, you need to check ingredients. Dr. A. is very, very, very clear that you need to check ingredients on ALL processed foods to find out if they are really SBD compliant, and that includes veggie burgers. His nutritionist at the SBD site is also very, very clear on this. Some veggie burgers are compliant, as they have no foods from the " foods to avoid " list. Some Boca burgers are compliant because of this. But, the specific burgers we are discussing are the " spicy chicken " ones. They do NOT have the SBD seal of approval on them. They are NOT specifically mentioned in the Good Carb book. And if you read the list of ingredients which I posted, you can see they are NOT compliant. later said that they were not compliant and had no SBD seal. The whole point of checking the Good Carb book and then checking to see if nonspecific items have compliant ingredients in them is because that's what Dr. A. said to do. We have to use our heads by going to the " allowed foods list " and see if the ingredients on individual non-specific foods are okay. We can't just say that all " veggie burgers " must be okay when there are so many varying veggie burgers. The current " guides " to go by are the guides that SBD provides on the site--they are the updated " foods to enjoy " lists and " foods to avoid " lists for each phase. The reason you go by those is that they are very specific. So, if you want to use the Good Carb book, we have to do it the way SBD says to do it, and that is to check non-specific processed foods to see if the ingredients are on the " allowed foods " lists for each phase. For specific foods, it is somewhat different. If it says " Cheerios " are limited, then " Cheerios " are limited. But, even then, " Honey Nut Cheerios " would not be allowed, as they have ingredients that are not allowed at all. ann > Ann- I know that they have changed a lot of things about Dr. Atkins diet since he died. In the past, I have done Dr. Atkins diet & am totally familiar with what he wrote & how they changed those things after he died (& I also agree with you that it is a shame & I have often thought that Dr. Atkins would not be at all pleased to hear what they have done to his diet after he died). Dr. A. of the SBD diet though, has not died & it is HE who endorses these products. How can the SBD Good Fats & Good Carbs Guide (that was written by Dr. A.) & that has been revised to reflect other changes to his original diet be wrong when there have been changes to the original list that Dr. A. does point out with each new revision to his Guide? The Guide was written to be a help & more complete list that the books devoted to the list of foods to eat & avoid, is, & it was written by Dr. A. (so how could the books be right & the Guide is wrong)? The real truth is that the foods to eat & foods to avoid lists in the books have later been changed & if anything is wrong it is those & not the revised up to date & current Guide. > > Orchid
