another trip to the ER

In the "never a dull moment" category, slammed a door onto Alyssa's finger yesterday afternoon. He took the end off of her finger. I called 911. And once they were able to bandage it, we went to the ER. They steri-stripped it and bandaged her entire hand and wrist (only the tip of her thumb is showing). The experts tell me it was just the "fatty pad" at the end of the finger and it should grow back nicely. Mom is still sick to her stomach about the event. So sorry to hear about Alyssa's finger. I'm sure it will heal and be as

good as new. I can relate to you still being sick about it. In 1990 we

were 3 days away from taking a Caribbean cruise (our first real vacation in

17 years) when broke his ankle so badly, that he had to have a cast

up to his waist. I was physically sick. My wonderful daughter stepped in

like a trooper and took care of her brother for the 7 days we were gone.

When my kids start getting wild, running through the house and slamming doors....I TRY to remember to shove a hand towel up over the door (in the corner) and it will not shut on those precious fingers!

LOL! You've never met me in real life, have you? I turned 40 a

couple of months ago, and have more gray hair than a lot of people in

their 50's and 60's! (Woody McGinnis MD says this could be a zinc

deficiency...)

After we returned from the ER, hubby did just that...except he used

BATH towels...

Hi Everyone,

Hope you all had a great 4th of July. Congratulations . I can't wait to see little Sophie.

Just an fyi regarding rashes... got this welt the size of a silver dollar on her face this past week. We took her to about five different doctors who couldn't figure it out (you should have heard some of the guesses) and finally to a UM pediatric dermatolgist. I told him this rash always pops up in the exact same spot on her face and she gets it between her fingers and on her bottom. This time, it was worse. HE asked ME if she had a gluten intolerence and was there any chance she could have come into contact with it. I retraced our past weeks steps and sure enough it was the same dumb thing I had given her before. This time, she is way worse off with major GI problems and the rash looks horrible.

Anyway, they diagnosed it as Dermatitis Herpetiformis which is a form of Celiacs disease. What do ya know! He said there are only a few doctors in Michigan who have studied this enough to diagnosis it and they can even confirm further with a biopsy. Dr Rasmussen is very well thought of at UM and in the country. My pediatrician on Monday had dismissed it as Contact Dermititus. I wonder how many kids actually have allergies/intolerances that are diagnosed with that catch all phrase. Oh well. Just in case you see a rash, it might be a warning of some gluten contamination...Sorry I went on so long.
