Thanks Maureen! I really did not feel totally relieved until Chief

Moose made his announcement last night. I had to run out last night and

it was so interesting. People were all over the place! Walking, I

believe with a spring in their step! It was so nice to see no one

looking over their shoulders or running from their cars to get inside.

My kids were so relieved and happy that they could go outside again.

Re: good morning

Hi ,

I hope that they really did get the guy!!!

WTG on being back on track!!! The recipie does sound yummy! Thanks for

sharing!

RE: good morning

Good morning everyone! Well hopefully they have caught the snipers.

Time will tell. Part of me is relieved but the other part is not

quite

sure. I will feel better when the chief comes out to talk to us.

Anyway, I'm back on track. 2 days op and I went and worked out this

morning. It was pretty sad, but at least I did it. I got this

recipe

from another site, thought it looked yummy!

BROILED TOMATOES PARMESAN

Makes: 4 Servings

1 Point Per Serving

- 2 medium ripe tomatoes (12 to 14 ounces total)

- 1 clove garlic, minced

- 2 teaspoons olive oil

- 1 tablespoon minced fresh basil, or 1 teaspoon dried basil

- 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

- 1/2 cup fresh soft bread crumbs, or 1 slice bread, crumbled

- 1 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan cheese (preferably Imported)

Cut the tomatoes in half crosswise. Gently squeeze out and discard the

seeds. Place the tomatoes cut side up on a broiler pan prepared with

nonstick spray.

Combine the garlic, oil, basil, and pepper in a small bowl. Brush

evenly over the cut surfaces of the tomatoes. Broil 6 inches from the

heat source until hot, about 5 minutes.

While the tomatoes are broiling, combine the crumbs and cheese in a

small bowl; sprinkle evenly over the tops of the hot tomatoes. Return

to the broiler until the crumbs are browned, about 2 minutes. Serve

immediately.

I have a condition called Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome that makes my whole system out of whack. It started with sporadic periods as a teen, inability to get PG as an adult, and now, it is effecting my weight. I am lucky, in that I am small in comparison to most with my condition, but I am 15 lbs heavier than when I (finally) got PG and that's just not acceptable to me. The only way I have lost any weight is by sheer starvation and then it comes right back when I eat normal.

I have friends who did Body For Life (which does the 6 small meals a day and weight training) and they have lost tons of weight. I just wonder if WW is the right thing for me. Nothing seems to work...................

It all depends on your height and what is healthy for you. I am currently 140 and need to be 125 to be back where I was before baby. That may not sound like a big deal to some folks, but 140 on my 5' 4" frame looks heavy.

It's all relative....................

Sometimes your body needs to be a certain size. For my build I don't think I should ever weigh 135. I would look sickly.

You should take into consideration that since you are working out you gain muscle and that weighs more than fat. You could be slimming down but the scale doesn't reflect it. I always try to judge by the way my clothes fit. Have you noticed a difference?

I have been at it for nearly 3 weeks now, and no, I haven't lost anything. I think my 2 lbs. lst week, was water, as it returned as quickly as it left. So no, I have yet to lose anyting at all. I don’t understand. I run a lot, a crosstrain, I drink tons of water. I don't understand, and am becoming incredibly frustrated. I am 135, and I know, I know that doesn't seem like a lot to some people, but I have struggled with it all my life. The only way I have ever been thinner, is when I stop eating, but as soon as I eat again, I put on all the weight again, and I can't live my life on rice. I have a very small frame, and a fairly high body fat percentage for my frame. I just want this last 20 lbs gone. I don't understand how I can be so active and not change anything.

That stinks! Have you tried strength training? Sometimes that extra muscle can help you burn more fat. I saw that on Oprah, look at her she has been doing strength training and she looks fab.

Hi Kimra,

I may be in the same boat as you. Working out lots, tons of water, eating healthily and not losing

weight, even gaining some. First, have you had your thyroid and hormone

levels checked? I did and mine were ok so that ruled out any problems there.

The doctor looked at my diet and said I wasn’t eating enough so my body

was storing food. So I’m now in the odd position of trying to eat more

but to lose weight. I actually had real problems getting up to my daily points

allowance at first. I’m still waiting to see results but it’s only

been a couple of weeks and at least I’ve stopped gaining. Another thing

she suggested is to eat smaller meals more often during the day instead of the

regular three. And to add weight training to my exercise

routine.

Hope that helps,

Fiona

You are hilarious and sound just like me!!!! I am also 140 and striving for 125 or so. I have a HUGE rear and thighs - everything else is pretty normal. I also want to be able to wear clothes and feel good about myself - forget swimsuits - I want to wear normal, everyday clothes and not feel huge.

To answer your question about sweets, though, I love the sweet treat ideas that was in one of the handouts from our meetings. You take canned biscuit dough and flatten it out into about 4" round sections. Put each piece in a muffin tin (so it's concave) and bake it 10 minutes. Fill these with any number of fruits and fat free cool whip and each is only 3 pts! These are YUMMY!! It satisfies my carb craving and my fav is strawberries with the cream. These really are fantastic and I usually had one after dinner every night. I refrigerated the unused "cups" in a ziplock and just took one out a night, microwaved for maybe 10 seconds to take off the chill, and made my dessert. EASY and DELICIOUS!

You hit the nail on the head with portion sizes! I make the same comment at my grandmothers for Thanksgiving. No way does she make enough to feed 11 of us, when in fact, if we'd eat normal portions, there'd probably be leftovers. I am guilty of it, too. I try to do one protein, one starch, and one veggie at each meal and I have changed my cooking methods and ingredients, but I haven't done a whole lot with portion sizes - that's the problem.

You have a valid point - we live in a Super Sized world!!!

I had to laugh at this, Kimra ... I used to actually go around asking

" normal " seeming people what they eat! See, my mother is the opposite ...

always thin (currently 96 lbs at 5'5 " , but also in poor health), but she

spent her life subsisting on coffee and cigarettes, a couple of cookies or

candies here or there, and one small meal each day. So that's how I thought

I needed to eat in order to be thin, but I really can't do that.

And Powter ... I met her. I appeared on her television program

actually. She didn't impress me as a terribly nice or " together " person.

But her food program is another one of those where you just eat certain

types of foods and don't have to keep track of how much, and for most of us

I don't think that is going to work. Stop grabbing the little bites here

and there, first of all. If it goes in your mouth, make sure that you have

measured it and written it down and it's accounted for ... otherwise, you

don't know what's working and what's not. Those little bites can really add

up! Have you ever been to the grocery store (or any store) and tossed just

a handful of relatively inexpensive items in your cart and been absolutely

astounded at how much it came to! Food can be the same.

As far as whether it's carbs or something else ... just check everything out

on the points counter. Did you ever get a slider? I do see that if you

join Weight Watchers At-Home you get a points calculator and it looks like

you get a slider as well. But if you just went a WW center and signed up in

order to get the tools it will be worthwhile I think. There is nothing

wrong with carbs per se, particularly if you are an endurance athlete!

Where you get into real trouble is when you combine carbs and fats, or when

you overeat carbs, because then the carbs set the insulin flowing, and

insulin is our fat storage hormone, so it will take all that fat or those

excess carbs/calories and store them away for use during the next famine.

If you are eating an amount and type of food within the WW guidelines, you

won't have that trouble because your body will be able to use all the carbs

you eat, cause you won't be able to eat excessively.

But I've gotta ask, Kimra ... are you sure you really need to lose weight?

Are you sure your self-image isn't distorted by your mother's weight? I

mean, you just said that you would appear to be thin to most people, so why

not to yourself? I'd actually hate it if you decided you are okay as you

are and left the list, because I enjoy your posts! But it might be

something to think about.

Perhaps you are right. I don't really measure everything, and nighttime is

sooooo hard for me. I am just so weak at night. I just can't imagine how I

can be so active and still struggle so. You are right though, I do know how

to eat, I just cant' seem to do it. Almost everymeal is carbs, and I am a

bite here, a bit off the kid's plate, a bit making dinner. It's hard fro me

not to snack. But even though I still don't feel like I eat that much, maybe

it is the wrong things. I followed the Powter thing for a while, and I

loved the idea of eatign real food all the time. I have a question, though.

My mom is very overweight and has been all her life (350), and so I am not

sure I have ever seen how a normal person eats. Do " normal " people eat sweet

things everyday, do they take bites all the tiem? Do they snack? How many

times a day do they eat? I mean wha tis normal, What so they sanck on? I

want to eat like a normal person. To look at me you would never know. Long

blonde ahir, blue eyes, thin to most people, but I have been known to hide

food. It is so weird, I want to be normal, I just don't' know how to be.

It's my little secret. Okay I just bared my soul to about 1000 people.

I thought you might ask that. ANd yes, I am sure I need to lose about 15 to 20 lbs. When I get down around 125 I start getting happier. I have small pelvis, hips, wrists and ankles. I doHowever have a lot of cellulite, a lot of extra weight in my rear, and thighs, and lower tummy. I am just tired of looking like a before picture. No, I am not excessivly overweight, and no, I am not a victim of body dysmorphic (is that how you spell it?) If you saw me you would understand. I am one of those people who want to bea ble to pull off a swimsuit for the first time in my life. I know there are lots, and lots fo people in my who would be happy to be within just a normal range, my mom included, and I applaud that. I am one of those people who want to have nice legs, and a flattish tummy, and not have dimples all over. I am pear shaped, and very flabby. Because of working out, I can feel nice muscle tone under my belly, and legs, I just want to see it. I know that is possible. I have managed to lose about 40 lbs since my 2nd daughter with various diets, and this is about the smallest I have been in a long time, I just want to finish, and I can't seem to. Is this the dreaded last 10 lbs I hear about? Is it really this hard?

I am surprised about Powter, her book seemed so good. I can see it though, when people get famous, especially famous and thin, they tend to get full of themselves. I even think she is a little on the too thin side.

I loved the comparison about the checkout line. I have done that lots of times. I can see how it might really be affecting me. SInce I run so much, I get hungry a lot, and tend to snack. So I need to find out what I can snack on, with out losing it. I have discovered, however, that when I consume high carbs, that I want something sweet, and then something else, and then something else sweet. I do seem to have a physical reaction to sweet things. WHen I was 40 or 50 lbs overweight, it wasn’t' too hard to get down a few lbs, but now, now that I am sooo close to leavign the house in shorts, I can't, and beleove me, with it being 104 outside, I would like to.

Just so you know, if I were on the opposite end of these posts, I woudlhave asked and wondered if the person I was talking to didn't have a little bit of a distorted view of themselves as well. Maybe I should just send you a picture of my bootie and thighs. LOL

Okay, so here's the bottom line. How do I get these last 20 lbs off,a nd still get to snack, and still stay within my points range?

Okay, I'll take your word for it, Kimra! I'm sure you are beautiful, just

not as perfect as you would like to be ... and you deserve to be perfect if

you want to be! But just to take the last edge off my curiosity, can I ask

how tall you are?

I know what you mean about sweets ... I have the same thing. Can't eat just

one! So for me it's best not to eat them at all. But sweets and carbs are

different things. You need carbs for energy (did you know, for example,

that glucose is the ONLY fuel your brain is designed to run on?), but you

don't need sweets. When I am keeping myself in good control, my carbs come

mostly from whole grains (and I mean WHOLE grains), although legumes are

also a good carb source. Have you ever tried Oroweat Lite Whole Wheat

Bread? I'm in California so I don't know if they have it everywhere or if

it is under the same brand name everywhere, but it's wonderful ... two

slices are 80 calories, only one point. I have it toasted with peanut

butter or cream cheese, or have sandwich with deli meat or a boca burger.

Have you ever tried oat bran for cereal? It is really good ... creamier

than regular oatmeal. I sprinkle in some splenda and have it with soymilk,

although you can use whatever milk you prefer.

And my favorite sweet treat is my sugar-free fat-free vanilla yogurt with

Kellogg's All Bran buds cereal sprinkled in it. And fruit is good.

Blueberries are yummy, and one cup is only one point. Or an orange. The

thought of fruit doesn't often turn me on, but once I get around to eating

it, it's so delicious I don't know why I don't do it more often. I can eat

pasta also without a problem ... spaghetti, or Lucca's spinach and beef

ravioli, which is very low in points. Heck, today I had five taquitos for

five points! I just stopped at five and it was fine!

I battled with myself this morning over whether or not to make a cobbler,

but thanks in part to this group, my better half won. I've been waking up

feeling bloated, even my face, for the last few days cause I've been eating

too much. A couple of days of victory and I will be feeling so much better!

Of course, tomorrow I have a seminar to attend for work, and they are

serving lunch, so that will be a challenge.

Anyway, you know what to do, so just do it, girl!

Sounds yummy, Amy, but I think what Kimra way saying (what I was saying

anyway!) is that eating sweets causes a craving for more and more sweets.

For some of us, that sweet tooth can NEVER be satisfied, so it's better to

just kill it off.

I am only 5'3". SO 137 on my small fram makes me fluffy. I am so glad I met you. Thank you for your encouragement. I didn't know that about carbs, and I suppose I am mixing them up. I love what you are saying, and I have decided to recommit myself. I really want this.

I have a rice steamer, and love brown wild rice, I love legumes, and veggies, I need to concentrate more on that. AS far a sweets, I am just going to have to stay away completely. A bag of Snackwells does no good if I eat the whole bag. LOL

If it weren't for chasing my two kids around, and tons of exercise I am positive I would be a house at this point in my life. I just need to go that extra mile.

I have to tell you that you really have inspired me, I appreciate it more than you know. I love that even though I only have 15 or 20 to go, that you are encouraging. I find some like my mother say, quit worrying about it, I wish I was your size, and that doesn't help me. You're right, if I want a strong lean body, then I do deserve it. I think I will post that on my fridge tomorrow.

on the slim side and have pretty good muscle tone ... if it weren't for

these doggone spider veins and varicose veins I think I'd even like them!

This summer is the first time I have worn shorts outside the house for as

long as I can remember, and I LOVE IT! To come home after work and take off

my long pants and put on my shorts is almost as good as taking off my bra at

night, LOL! But I carry all my weight in my tummy. Ick.

Anyway, we seem to have similar problems, so while I am giving you a pep

talk I am giving myself one as well and it's helped me a lot. I've done

well today!!! Today I had two slices of lite whole wheat toast with salmon

flavored cream cheese for breakfast (3 pts) with 2 cups of coffee with cream

(2 pts), then for lunch I had five taquitos (5 pts). In the afternoon I

snacked on baby carrotts and celery (0 pts). For dinner I had Lucca's Beef

& Spinach Ravioli (this is from the grocery store freezer) ... 2 whole cups

for 6 points (I like it without sauce, just a sprinkle of salt). That's 16

points and right now I'm stuffed! Later I will have my regular evening

snack (can you guess?) of vanilla yogurt with bran cereal, and that's 3

points, so that will be a total of 19 points. My range is 22 to 27 so I

will probably have to see if I can find something else to eat. I'm out of

blueberries, but an orange might be good. But really, I feel as though I've

had quite a lot to eat and the points have stayed pretty low.

But if I hadn't spent so much time today thinking of encouraging things to

say to you, I just might have baked that cobbler instead! So thank you,

too!

Sharon

I am only 5'3 " . SO 137 on my small fram makes me fluffy. I am so glad I met

you. Thank you for your encouragement. I didn't know that about carbs, and

I suppose I am mixing them up. I love what you are saying, and I have

decided to recommit myself. I really want this.

I have a rice steamer, and love brown wild rice, I love legumes, and

veggies, I need to concentrate more on that. AS far a sweets, I am just

going to have to stay away completely. A bag of Snackwells does no good if I

eat the whole bag. LOL

If it weren't for chasing my two kids around, and tons of exercise I am

positive I would be a house at this point in my life. I just need to go that

extra mile.

I have to tell you that you really have inspired me, I appreciate it more

than you know. I love that even though I only have 15 or 20 to go, that you

are encouraging. I find some like my mother say, quit worrying about it, I

wish I was your size, and that doesn't help me. You're right, if I want a

strong lean body, then I do deserve it. I think I will post that on my

fridge tomorrow.

Love,

Kimra

I think you are right, Kimra ... one day there is just a " click " and

everything shifts into place. I'm glad that time has come for you. I think

I might start running, too. I don't like riding my bike when my husband

isn't along cause I don't know how to fix flats, chains, etc. Running is so

easy! Hey, if I could only learn to swim I could become a triathalete! I

used to run every day, rain and shine, sickness and health. It used to be

one of my goals to finish a marathon one day, but I'd kind of come to think

of that as a kind of painful idea! It sounds silly, but one of the things

that holds me back is that I work at a high school in a small town, and I

can't go out on the streets and do anything without someone coming in the

next day telling me they saw me, and for some reason I feel silly going out

running ... I still feel too heavy! Maybe that's why I like riding with my

husband, cause we load the bikes on the car and go to a different location

to do it!

Anyway, congrats and keep at it!

I am of the opinion, that one will ot lose weight, quit smoking, leave a bad

realtionship, whatever, unless they are really ready. Or else it will not

work, that's why I think my mother hasn't lost weight, she's not ready. I

think I am finally ready.

Triathlete huh? I'll let you conquer that one. I understand what you mean about feeling silly. I still hate it when Lean runners pass by me. I am so slow that even walkers pass me, and it si frustrating. I just love ti too much.

Well I still havent' woken up the children, I made a protein shake because I didn't want t full belly running, but I used 7 points for it, so now I have to run.
