I am looking forward to hearing more about your experiences and progress as I move forward here. I live in the US and this will make you laugh but I have to actually have to do math to convert pounds to kilos. Its the math thats going to kill me, not the surgery. Guest guest
Thanks all..this is probably all old news to you guys but I have a few questions if someone has time to respond. After the surgery, how often should one expect to have to go back to the Doctor? I live about 3 hours from the clinic and will take the time from work to go. I know there are alot of variables here but maybe a general rule. How about post surgery? How long before you could go back to work? What made folks choose this procedure over the alternatives? Thanks. Lynn Re: I have a DATE!!! That is fantastic Gus! Remember the song sung by Amy Grant? "Angels watching over me, every step I take"... hang on to it and we'll remember too! Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Welcome to Ozband. I only had my surgery in August and I had to see the surgeon one week after surgery for staple removal and then I see him each month there after so far. I chose this surgery over other methods because I had lost all my weight before and it nearly all came back on and I was just so tired of the yo-yo cycle. I decided I wanted to try and keep most of it off this time and I hope I get the chance to actually get 60% of excess weight off. Many long term Bandsters have said that there is a 18 month window of opportunity to get as much of the weight off as you can because of the changes to your metabolism from such very small amounts of food. Maybe it's a myth I don't really know. The conversion for kg & lbs is (kg multiply by 2.2 = lbs) or (lbs divided by 2.2 = kg) Hope this helps Luv Karin Banded Aug 6th 2001Weight then 96kg Weight now 87.8kgWeight I want to be ?? Guest guest
Hi Lyn, I had about 3 visits pre op but this can vary. I took only 1 week off work and that was enough for me, I must admit the first week at work I didn't have much energy, but got by quite easily. Post-op visits also vary, I've been going back every week for fills (I am on mission - getting married in Jan) I should have been going back every 2 weeks until I am happy with the amount of fluid, then the visits become monthly and after that I am not sure. If you have a long way to go then I think most Dr's would consider that and maybe put more fluid in at a time, you will need to discuss this. I must admit I was surprised at the amount of visits required only because I was not informed or didn't ask. Guest guest
Thanks Steve and you're not being too picky. You're helping out in many, many ways. I'm new too all of this and appreciate any and all advice you veteran parents can give. Over the weekend, I spoke to Dr. Roland Eavey of the MA Ear and Eye Infirmary in Boston. I was wondering if you were familiar with anyone in the group that has had reconstructive surgery done by Dr. Eavey. I know that he is well known for his work with growing the ear on a mouse's back, but haven't heard much from the group about him. Please let me know. Thanks, Traci (Lena's mom)
Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement. I know I am lucky it has been so easy to get this far so quickly. It seemed to be very easy at first. Now that I am over the 1/2 way hump, it isn't so easy. But I will keep trying and trying and trying!!! I just love food too much!! Thanks again! > Kendra, > You are doing fantastic!
