Guest guest
Hi I was also diagnosed w/ fibroids recently, having horrible bleeding (24+days at a time) and pain. D and C seemed to stop the bleeding for now (last 2 weeks). I have been researching options for the past month, I am 30 and want kids, but can no longer live w/ the fibroids. I also will not have hyst for many other reasons. I have looked into myo, resection,UFE, drug treatment (lupron) etc. I have been reading tons of med journal studies on all these procedures, and have decided on UFE. Although, there is not a ton of known statistics abt UFE and fertility, what is known looks quite encouraging to me. I know for me this has been a really tough decision, requiring tons of thought and research. Whatever you do, DO NOT let any Dr railroad you into a choice that you are not comfortable with, and get all the info you can (the links on this site are great, as are the past posts) also, you may want to check out the yahoo EMBO group, a group of women who have had or are considering UFE. Best of luck, and remember, we're all in it together... " I told the doctor I had hoped to have another baby and he basically said no way. I am 38, which he considers far too old, and he doubts I will get pregnant with the fibroid. " --This seems reason enough to go to another Dr, at least get a second opinion. " He is against doing a Myomectomy and wants to do a Hysterectomy instead. I am not ready for that. " --Again, get another opinion. Also, you may want to look into Uterine Artery Ebolization as well to shrink the fibroid (these are done by Interventional Radiologist). There haven't been a lot of them done (around 10,000) but I have now read numerous studies, and many women have gotten pregnant after UAE. It is less invasive than myo, and even if you decide against it as a choice for you, you may want to check it out as it is an option you can then rule out. They took me off the pill since he said it was probably contributing to the growth of the fibroid. They performed a biopsy yesterday and want me to do blood work in 3 weeks to see if I'm ovulating. I too went off the pill, and after doing a bunch of research on fibroids/BCP use, it seems there may be a link b/t BCP use (esp monophasal (ex-lo-ovral,etc) and the growth of fibroids, but the jury is still out on this as a definite. My thought was not to take the chance that there is a link, and not to put anymore hormones into my body--to try and let it get back to a natural hormonally balanced state. (I was on BCP for nearly 10 yrs before they found the fibroids) " So I guess at this point it's just a waiting game. " I know for me, I will not continue to " wait, watch, and suffer. " I am getting all the info I can, and hope to now get rid of these damn fibroids once and for all....
