Guest guest
Hi Pam - Your Dr is correct in that she may not be able to see all of your fibroids based on your ultrasound, if a large fibroid is hiding other ones. However, when she goes in to perform your myo, she will be able to see and/or feel ALL of them, and remove ALL of them, no matter if they are the size of a grain of rice. I just had a myo performed in NY City by Dr West on Tuesday morning. I had forwarded to him a copy of the ultrasound report that I had done by my local gyno in Michigan, which appeared to show one large fibroid. Dr West guaranteed that there would be more than one, but that he wouldn't know for certain what was there until he began the procedure. He was correct; however, unlike some on this list who had 40+, I was very fortunate to only have 4. The other 3 were not apparent on the ultrasound. He took out all 4, and there is no reason that if there were 100, he would not have taken out all 100. Further, a doctor does NOT need an MRI, nor should you allow one to talk you into taking Lupron (!!). Please get clarification from your doctor, and if she does not believe that she would remove ALL, or if she cannot guarantee a myo (and not a hysto), EXCEPT for cancer, run quickly to find a more qualified doctor. Dr West guarantees that he will not do a hysto on the consent that you sign (again, unless cancer). Marie PS - I had the myo Tuesday morning and returned to my hotel room here in NY Wednesday evening. Dr West is the best, just as everyone has said here, and I know I made the right decision to travel to see him. I was fully awake directly following surgery, and I need NO pain medication whatsoever. I am walking around the hotel today and still plan to attend Saturday's meet-up here. Because of the postings on this board, I was never nervous or afraid because I knew I was in good hands with this doctor. The worst of my entire story is the 5+ years that I went through hell dealing with these things and trying everything I could think of to stop their growth. In retrospect, I would've done this long ago. I only wish I'd have found this website a LOT earlier... ____________ Message: 3 Date: Thu, 17 Jun 2004 00:32:20 -0000 Pam wrote: I'm sure when I go in and talk to her, she will explain it all, but it doesn't make sense. While she's in there, can't she take out all the fibroids she finds? Why a possible second surgery? I would welcome any help you can give me about questions I should ask my doctor at this visit so I'm making the right decision and can limit the number of surprises (if any) after surgery. I'm getting a little worried that she may try to talk me into a hyster or get me upset with worries about future surgery. (The fear of another major surgery is what made me decide on a hysterectomy in the first place.)
