Guest guest
Here is my update: Hi--You'll find some posts from me in the archives--about my surgery. I received many Dr. opinions before surgery. Most Doctors were not interested in removing my fibroids by laparoscopy but I really wanted that. I used a doctor who is known for doing laparoscopies but he warned me that that he may have to convert to open surgery in my case. Well, he did have toiconvert to open surgery (many reasons). He attempted laparoscopy first then had to open me up. It was a long surgery and it's as if I am recovering from 2 surgeries at once. I have incisions from both surgeries. They healed well now. I have mixed feelings about the doctor that did the surgery. He is a great doctor and much nicer than any I have ever met. However, shortly after my surgery, he joined a new practice that does not take my insurance. He also took some time off in between. I feel abandoned. The office that he left behind still takes my insurance but I have had nothing but problems with them since he left. As I mentioned I still have a lot of pain, yet they expect me to wait months for an appointment. So, now I have an appointment to see one of the doctors who gave a second opinion shortly before the surgery. My appointment is next week and I am going to make it very clear that I should not have had to live with the pain for these months and I should not have had to live without medical care. I want him to know that if I need a sonogram or an MRI I will not find it acceptable to have to wait for an appointment or to wait long for results. I am on Long Island, NY. My surgery was back in November. The pain is not severe but I have it all the time. It is more like a tenderness or a feeling like I performed too many situps. Guest guest
It's good to hear your surgery is over and done with and you are OK. Sorry to hear you couldn't get the kind you wanted for your case. On the one hand not all doctors will be experienced in keyhole surgery for fibroids. But also it may be that your fibroid type, size and position didn't lend itself to that particular approach. Then again, if you are in America, I don't know your medical/insurance system. > < it's as if I am recovering > from 2 surgeries at once. > Nasty! You're not alone with this problem of let-downs in the system with admin, aftercare, and so forth in some places. You can expect to feel that stomach pulled feeling for 6 weeks and even beyond. Avoid heavy lifting, don't over do it, don't over estimate how much better you are and remember you're not as strong on the inside for 6 months. Otherwise you'll have more pain and tiredness and more likelihood of set-backs. It's best to ask the doc when you'll be able to drive / make love / try to get pregnant / resume a favourite sport / go back to work. Of course. You should be getting an after care check up! How are we to know what is normal in an operation recovery if they don't tell us? For some reason in life we get all the attention in the world for the unimportant things, like do we want double glazing, or have you tried the latest moisturiser? Yet we feel guilty and get a disinterested, 'why are you making so much fuss?' tone of response for the important things like major surgery and fertility. That's a better period of time to get peace of mind and to catch any problems. I would take the diplomatic friendly approach and get more firm if they muck you around. Ask for their advice on pain killing, when you can do what and what is normal and what to expect in recovery. Yes, that's how I felt.(Except I would never do sit-ups ordinarily!)
