I'm now 17 days post-myo and feel in the position to give some advice

to anyone having surgery in the near future:

1/ Avoid any form of lifting as you really feel it afterwards -

excruciating muscle pain

2/ Try to avoid bending- but this is quite difficult- better to

kneel down very slowly by bending your knees

3/ Increase your walking daily but only little by little

4/ Try to avoid stairs as much as possible especially in first week

and a half and take it very very slowly up and down

5/ Get loads of rest- I recommend an afternoon nap if possible

6/ Try to have one friend/visitor come round every day to help you

out/ keep you company especially if you live alone

7/ Drink plenty- especially herbal teas- they help to keep you calm

8/ Take pain relief when needed- don't try to be brave

9/ If you feel very anxious slow your breathing right down and

breathe slowly and calmly

10/ If you live alone, stay with relatives/ friends for 2 weeks

post -myo to stop yourself overdoing things

11/ Don't do too much reading/research about your condition as you

may become subconsciously very anxious and start imagining all sorts

of complications post-surgery.

I didn't do all these things- but you learn form experience as the

saying goes!
