Guest guest
Hi, I actually just spoke to my doctor about this. He said if the ovaries are ok, they leave them in and just do a hysterectomy where they just take the uterus. Because the ovaries are still in the body producing hormones, you don't have to do HRT. Guest guest
Sometimes the ovaries stop working after hyst - this happens 25% of the time according to 'The Woman's Guide to Hysterectomy' by Adelaide Haas and Puretz (1995). Early menopause can result from hyst even if the ovaries are kept, maybe because of loss of blood supply. Also, it may be that the uterus produces hormones itself, which interact with the ovaries. I read this in Goodwin and Broder. They think we do not yet know everything about the function of the uterus, which is a reason to try and keep yours if you can. > Hi, > > I actually just spoke to my doctor about this.
