Guest guest
Reading through the last many days’ posts, I have a couple of comments: THE AVOIDING FUTURE SURGERY EXCUSE: There is an “old doctors’ tale” about having a hyst instead of a myo so that you’ll “eliminate” the chance of needing surgery again at some future time. First, only a small percentage of women need further treatment of fibroids post-myo. AND -- fact is, a good number of women require further surgery post-hyst also. True, it’s not surgery for uterine fibroid, but it’s major abdominal surgery just the same -- for prolapses, etc. I haven’t found any info on someone working out these numbers exactly – but it appears that if you look at women’s lifetimes, it’s probably at least as likely – maybe even more likely – that you’ll need further major abdominal surgery post-hyst as post-myo. Maybe someday some enlightened researcher will actually work out and publish these numbers. And remember, the older you are the less time you have left to grow more fibroids – thus the less likely you’d need further surgery post-myo. LUPRON I know, I harp on this subject, but menopause and castration are two WAY different things. Our ovaries function all of our lifetimes – even in menopause. Having them NOT function is CASTRATION. Lupron is not a preview of menopause. Lupron is chemical castration. To call it menopause is, in my opinion, sugarcoating it – and an untruth. How can you have informed consent to taking a drug when the women are being misinformed about what the drug actually does??? One reason I go on about this, is I believe women have been duped into thinking their ovaries will shut-down at menopause. They are often railroaded into making treatment decisions based on that false belief. I think we have a responsibility to one another & to all women to keep this difference clear. Maybe together we can have some influence on the general misinformed thinking on the subject. UFE Seminar: And I’d like to remind anyone anywhere close to Modesto, Calif that tomorrow – June 17 - is the free UFE seminar there – 6:30 p.m. at Doctors Medical Center – Conference Room #4, with Hankin, M.D. (an IR).
