As you may know, Carla Dionne & I took

a little fibroid tour of Florida and tried

out some different formats for fibroid chats

a few years back. Back then, it was tough

getting local media interested...but money

talks...a $10k media campaign by Holy Cross

Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale really brought the ladies in

that night...

Fast forward to 2004, hmmmm Leon Counties'

Tallahassee Memorial is right up there in the

hysterectomy stats with a whopping 909. Escambia

County's Sacred Heart Hospital with 941 and

Hillsborough's St. ph with 1,182.

The stats come out of a nifty little State of

Florida report:

It's a fascinating look at one state that is... " RIPE

AS A BANANA " for multiple 3 part pieces by the Miami Herald

or Orlando Sentinel or St. sburg Times....maybe

the Tallahasee Democrat. Problem is...these folks like

advertising money...advertising dollars gets a big

foot in the door to a story, a series.

Oh, and looking at the stats, castrations (removal

of the ovaries) are frequent too.
