Got a virus sent to me overnight, teh " W32.Dumaru.@ww worm " (classy

name for it, yes?)

Below is the text for the message.

This was SUPPOSEDLY sent from Microsoft as a wondows patch. I wish

to emphasize (and those who already know better bear with me) that

Microsoft will NEVER send cold emails containing attachments. You

must subscribe to them requestiong update releases, and then they

will direct you to THEIR site to download a patch.

I use mail, which prescreens all attachments for known viruses,

and will NOT let me open one even if I want to. Had I been using

Outlook, I would NOT have this protection (hint: start using

mail, it is free).

Please forward this to your lists, and ask your friends to do the

same. The only way to stop viruses is to get everybody to stop

loading them on their machines.

TGIM!!!

From: " Microsoft " <security@...>

To:

Subject: Use this patch immediately !

Dear friend , use this Internet Explorer patch now!

There are dangerous virus in the Internet now!

More than 500.000 already infected!

It's a hoax.

Fw: Read ASAP

I checked snopes.com and this is for real..

Get this sent around to your contacts ASAP...we don't need this spreading

around.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS:

You should be alert during the next days:

Do not open any message with an attached filed called " Invitation "

regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens an Olympic Torch

which " burns " the whole hard disc C of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in

his/her contact list, that is why you should send this e-mail to

all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to

receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called " invitation " , though sent by a friend, do not

open it and shut down your computer immediately. This is the

worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft as the

mostdestructive virus ever.

This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet

for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero

Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept

SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW ,

COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND! IT TO YOUR FRIENDS

AND REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

Please always actually check SNOPES.COM before sending virus alerts:

http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/mailserver.asp

[ ] virus warning

Anyone-using Internet mail such as , Hotmail, AOL and so on.

This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and

Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access t o the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report'

If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying:

'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.'

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who

sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's

are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'.

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to

PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY!

THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES
