Hi ,

I also had a pedunculated fibroid discovered when I was pregnant,

and I had it removed via abdominal myo when my daughter was 14

months old. I had to wait until she was completely weaned to have

my surgery and that was harder done than said! We also wanted to

see how my much my fibroid shrank after she was born. It was the

size of a small basketball when she was born, and shrunk down to 9.5

cm 14 months later.

Anyway, we were fortunate to have my parents stay with us for 2 1/2

weeks - my husband worked during the week & my parents were able to

go home on the weekends (they live 30 miles away). My Dr. didn't

want me to lift my daughter (22 lbs.) for at least 2-3 weeks

following my myo. She was born via emergency c/section so this was

my second abdominal surgery in just over a year. My recovery was

good and like Cheryl I tried to minimize use of pain meds and walked

a lot - for me the recovery was much easier than the c/section I

think largely because I didn't have to get up every 1 1/2 hours all

night long. I was able to have her sit in my lap to read stories,

give her her bath if someone else put her the tub, etc. At about 2

1/2 weeks post myo my Dr. gave me the go ahead to resume taking care

of her myself. I am a full time stay at home Mom so we were back

into our routine in no time.

I agree with Cheryl that something magical happens around 3 months -

usually they start sleeping better, are more scheduled and just

become easier to take care of. Once you start getting some decent

sleep you will feel a lot better, too. If I didn't have the weaning

issue to contend with I think having the surgery before she was

mobile would have been easier. My daughter didn't start crawling

until 10 months and walked at 13 months - now at 16 months she is

everywhere!

Good luck to you! Feel free to e-mail me if you'd like.
