Guest guest
I don't think the 9cm is degenerating. It was 5.3 cm in December and is now about 9cm so it's definitely growing. But I do think they did not get that one as well as the several other ones that were left after the '02. I am in the process of gathering those medical records so I can see for myself what happened. I do recall my mother saying that my doctor brought out a picture of the biggest one, which was the size of a softball, and said that they didn't want to get the rest of them b/c they had already had me under for 4 hours just trying to get the ONE...(?) That to me is interesting and would leave me to believe that my dr did not have a lot of experience with fibroids and more specifically dealing with African American patients who are prone to have more..she used to just marvel at my sono work stating that " I've only seen one other patient with fibroids like this, and she was Black... " Also, no one has mentioned an MRI for fibroids to me before. And yes, both oncologists sent me for sonos and hysterosonos. I don't have a previous hx of endo to my knowledge. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that I may not have had it, since the Kaiser dr's in particular were very haphazard with even diagnosing me with fibroids PERIOD. I will ask about that this week....that said, would it be worth it to go forward with the third opinion and go deeper into mentioning the MRIs or laperoscopy to look at the endo? What type of questions should I be asking at this stage in the game? Kim
Guest guest
Kim, I'm glad your requesting copies of the surgical notes for your former surgery. I sure hope they included a description of the endometriosis if found. Dr. Bill , author of A Gynecologist's 2nd Opinion, Board of Directors Member of the National Uterine Fibroids Foundation (NUFF.org)provided good infor on cancer and the use of MRI in message #45365, his response to Pat Boersma, " RE: Cancer Scare Again/HystyvMyo/etc. Read the message in its entirety. Carla Dionne, moderator of this group, author " Sex, Lies & the Truth About Uterine Fibroids " describes symptoms of endometriosis on page 129 which includes constant backache. See also Nadine sen, BSN, RN in her description of uterine fibroids: http://nasw.org/users/nadinej/adv/fibroids.htm Nadine is from the Washington,DC area. Dr. Spies, Interventional Radiologist at town Univ. has extensive experience with MRI/UAE. You might want to contact him also about MRI and surgical oncologists in the DC metro area who are using MRI as a diagnostic tool. MRI may also be helpful in diagnosing ovarian problems, ie dermoid cysts. The key is good diagnostics and good doctors... Hoping other women post-myo and with repeat problems will also respond & with other Dr. recommendations in the MD/DC/VA area. Marsha
