< I've been trying to keep up with reading >

I read them online.

Might you possibly want children in the future?

How old are you?

What is the truth about sex and different treatments (Not just

hyst)?

What is the truth about fibroids shrinking with the menopause?

What about post hysterectomy/menopause problems discussed

HRT etc?

How bad are your current symptoms?

IF you've had ablation before I guess you are aware of various

treatment options and have considered the myomectomy as

well. With the myomectomy comes the possibility of a fibroid

problem again in the future, perhaps in 30% of cases. But you

have the advantages of still having a uterus. You could always

have a myomectomy after a UAE if tat seemed a good idea to you

and the doctor.

> What about natural remedies, including creams and diet? Can

anyone point me in the right direction here?

Have you seen the Yahoo healing Fibroids Naturally forum yet?

Have alook too at Lark's books

Hi Annette,

I cannot answer most of your questions, but I saw postings from this

group that pretty much answered all of your questions. To see old

posts, visit the group on the web:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/.

You'll find all of those valuable information that you missed and old

posts before you joined.

You want to have a thorough understanding of all options before ever

contemplating doing a hyst.

I Don't Know Where to Start

I've been trying to keep up with reading all the mail from the group,

but some days I just have time to delete the emails without reading

them. I'm sure I'm missing a lot of valuable information that could help

me, but I'm overwhelmed/stressed right now and need to focus on what I

should do for my tumors.

HI!Annette:

I had an embolization 5 weeks ago today and feel great. I also had

a 10cm fibroid that caused horrible bleeding and hemmoraging. After

a ton of research, I knew that was the right route for me. I wanted

to keep my uterus and parts. This was the least invasive way for me

to go. I am 43 and have a ways to go before menapause.

My procedure went perfectly from a technical standpoint. I did

not do this to shrink my belly besides, the location of my fibroid

was in the rear, (near spine) resting on colon and bladder. If you

want to do a procedure to shrink your tummy, this may or may not do

it. With embolization, shrinkage takes time and the bigger the

fibroid, the less it will shrink. My IR said if mine shrinks 50%

that would be excellent results. But this is not about shrinkage,

and is considered a success if your symtoms are relieved. (bulk,

bleeding) For now, my bleeding is totally relieved, and I don't know

about shrinkage yet, it's much to soon. It could take a year and

thats fine. I do pee often and still do but my gyno said my uterus

is still swollen. This also takes a few months to go down. I can

wait and am very hopeful it will resolve. It's not a big deal now.

the bleeding was the huge issue.

Yes, I've had more unpleasent discharge than most women. I think

I'm in minority here, but again, it's a small price to pay and it's

a good thing, it means the fibroid is dead and is deterieroating. I

can put up with this. It is a temporary thing.

I've had a lighter period also. Many women's bulk symtoms have

been relieved immediately, but the majority take some time. Most

all are very happy with the results.

If you want to get it all over with which is understandable, then

be careful you may be trading 1 set of problems for a whole other!!

I don't want my fibroid either, but would rather have a dead fibroid

than no uterus and dealing with HRT for the rest of my life. To me,

other procedures carry many more risks than UFE. If I were you, I'd

do a lot of research about your avenues. Soon, you'll know whats

right for you. Only you can tell.

With me, I knew hysterectomy was out of the question, myo was out

also since I didn't want to deal with them growing right back! UFE

wasn't the most appealing either, but after researching and asking

millions of questions, I knew it was my only choice. I am very

happy with my decision. I joined the yahoo embo group and got a ton

of support including finding a phenominal IR.

The only answere the gyno's have is hysterectomy. It's all they

really know. Most are very ignorant and don't know enough about UFE

to recommend it. Most women that choose UFE have researched it

themselves and I've heard are very intelligent women.

As far as natural rememdies, I tried all that for 1 1/2 yrs.

Diet, natural meats, progesterone cream. Seemed o.k. for a while,

but my fibroid grew anyway. I dont' think you want your 10 cm

fibroid to grow anymore becuase then you really will be without

obtions.

Jen

> How do I know if I want to keep my uterus? I know my bulk problems

are quite vexing and I just want these tumors out. I'm kind of

worried that the embolization won't shrink them enough. Lately,

reading about all the discharges women are having sounds bad too.

Thank Jen, I'll take your advice to heart. I used to have terrible bleeding, but

had the ablation 5 years ago. I don't know if I had fibroids then. I remember

them telling me I had no polyps and no endometriosis. I don't remember fibroids

coming up, but perhaps they did tell me about it ( I had an ultrasound before

the ablation).

I'm glad the embo worked so well for you. I'm still waiting to see if my

insurance covers it. If not, I don't know what I'll do!

Thanks for the ideas. I am going to read all I can and keep asking questions.

I am 47 and can't have children because of the ablation. I'm not menopausal yet.

I do have symptoms, but no longer have any periods. Prior to the ablation I had

severely heavy bleeding, was anemic, and ended up in the hospital a couple of

times for emergency D&C's. I don't remember fibroids EVER being mentioned.

My symptoms are related to pressure on my organs from my uterus being 3-4 month

size (nurse told me one size, doctor another, I'm not sure). I have trouble

urinating at times, sometimes I can't go. It is causing problems with my bowels,

too. I also think it is causing pain in my left leg.

Annette:

Have you checked the yahoo embo group? There have been women

that have had that " can't pee " problem and have immediate relief

with embolization. That can be serious and you should look into

this further. The fibroid may be blocking something. Jen

I'm on that list, but haven't researched that problem much yet. I will. It's

been difficult finding the time, but I have some time this weekend to devote to

this.

Thanks!
