I'm new to the group and so far am liking it very much. You all have so much

knowledge and I'm benefitting from your experiences. Thank You :)

I was just recently diagnosed with fibroids and it's really taken me off guard.

I was having a problem since last August with vertigo, which eventually led me

into the ER. They did a CAT scan and said everything looked normal. They were

unsure why I was having the problem and sent me home with meds. I saw my regular

MD and he said just keep taking the meds if I'm dizzy.

In January I was back in the ER with the vertigo and nausea, they did a repeat

CAT, gave me IV fluids and IV meds (one of which I had a horrible reaction to)

and again sent me on my way with instructions to follow up with my MD. I had a

new Doc at this time, but saw his PA who went over the test results with me. He

said I had serious Anemia, my count was only 5, and that could be causing the

dizziness. He was surprised with my blood count so low that I was able to get

out of bed at all. He then referred me to another PA in the practice for my

annual woman's visit. I saw her the following week. She asked me about my

periods and I told her they were quite heavy, but always had been. She said

maybe the anemia was from that. I had recently started the pill and she said

that should slow down the bleeding so continue with that. During the exam she

noticed that my uterus was enlarged and sent me out for a scan. The scan showed

free-floating debris and possible small fibroids. They wanted to

redo the scan in a month, which they did and said the conclusion was the same

" possible " small fibroid, come back in a year.

The following month I had my period on the 3rd, 5 days, not bad bleeding with

the pill so I thought things were looking up. On the 15th I started spotting and

then a full-blown period from hell lasting 8 days. I called the PA and she

referred me to a GYN for a evaluation and possible D & C. He did a scan and said

there were several fibroids one of which was large measuring 3cm and pushing on

the wall of the uterus. I was surprised at his findings and he got a little

annoyed with me because he said I wasn't taking things seriously. I told him

this was the first I had heard of this, I had recently had two ultrasounds and

they never mentioned anything was serious or that I should be concerned. He

commented that the reason they missed it was because it was a tech who did the

scan and not him. OKKKKKK

I told the doctor I had hoped to have another baby and he basically said no way.

I am 38, which he considers far too old, and he doubts I will get pregnant with

the fibroid. He is against doing a Myomectomy and wants to do a Hysterectomy

instead. I am not ready for that. They took me off the pill since he said it was

probably contributing to the growth of the fibroid. They performed a biopsy

yesterday and want me to do blood work in 3 weeks to see if I'm ovulating.

So I guess at this point it's just a waiting game.
