Guest guest
Hi, I just wanted to chime in here and let you know I have also been diagnosed with UD through an abdominal and vaginal u/s. I'm actually going tomorrow to see the u/s pictures and determine whether or not I feel comfortable with this diagnosis. I think most of the ladies in this group will let you know that an u/s should not be the only procedure you rely on for a correct diagnosis. anyamelbourne anyamelbourne@...> wrote: Hi everyone, I was diagnosed with UD 2 years ago by an ultrasound scan. For those of you who have the same condition, how were you diagnosed and do you think an ultrasound can give a difinitive diagnosis? The more I read the more confused I get. I would appreciate any information from anyone. Guest guest
My first diagnosis was possible SU by ultrasound. A follow-up HSG to confirm was a total waste of time, as technician didn't realize that I had a 2nd cervix/ vaginal septum - so only put dye through one uterus. I had no idea how the procedure worked, so I didn't know there was anything wrong. Result: diagnosis of UU - which I knew was wrong. Several years later, and thinking about conceiving, I had lap/hysteroscopy to confirm diagnosis. The diagnosis was SU, but the rationale/description was actually much closer to UD. I think this is quite a problem in the NHS actually, general gynae doctors who seem to think that a septate and double uterus are the same thing. Although 2 x cervix, vaginal septum can happen with septate uterus (there are several women on the board with this formation), it is more typical of UD - so that's another piece of the picture. I had a UD diagnosis at time of my caesarean section. The early pregnancy ultrasound I had this pregnancy also diagnosed UD. So - I've been SU, UU and UD and I think a degree of uncertainty/range of diagnoses is pretty typical of women's experience on the board. I don't know for definite which I am (though I think UU can be ruled out!). Obviously, it's useful to know what to expect in pregnancy, but knowing can only change reproductive outcomes if it makes a difference to treatment. That's why it's useful to confirm SU, as resection is a possibility. A few doctors recommend extensive surgery (metroplasty?) for UD, but most docs say UD should be left alone. So, I can't say 100% whether I'm UD or SU - but if I'm complete SU, I've been lucky, because I've been able to carry to term without need of resection. For the moment, I'm assuming that UD is correct.
Guest guest
Anya, I am UD and was diagnosed via Hystosapingogram which is a test where they insert dye into your cervixes and look at the shape that the dye forms. I have heard that a laproscopic hysteroscopy is the best to to diagnos mullerian anomolies. I had many many unltrasounds growing up due to losing an ovary (unrelated) and the ultrasounds never showed anything unusual about my reproductive anatomy. That's just my experience. M. Guest guest
I was diagnosed by ultrasound and then later had an HSG when we were considering ttc to find out more details. The HSG showed that one ovary/tube might not be connected on my smaller side. This could not be determined by the us. BTW, my docs all said they felt it better to leave my UD as is and not attempt any surgery since it might cause more complications with pg from scar tissue, etc. Turned out to be fine - had no complications to speak of with my twin pg last year. Guest guest
Hey Trish I'm UD also. I have 2 cervices & vaginas, the left side being the dominant side. I always suspected I had 2 cervices but no MD could ever locate it. I finally went to an RE & he was able to locate the rt side (very painful) As for TTC, we have been trying for 13 months with no luck. We did 4 rounds of clomid w/ IUI unsuccessfully. I started injections last week. Does anyone have any encouraging stories with repronex & pregnancy? Best of luck to you.
