Guest guest
Just thought I'd chime in. To the woman who asked about bladder problems with regards to fibroids, the answer is YES, your fibroids can cause plenty of bladder and even kidney problems. This was actually my primary (but not my only) reason for having a UAE. I had my procedure done almost exactly a year ago (May 28th, 2003.) All my 'bulk' symptoms were resolved (bladder problems, pressure/pain, painful intercourse, fatigue, and some weird discharge.) The amount of time it takes to get full relief varies alot, but I was lucky and saw results immediately, within 1.5 hours of my procedure. I guess it took about 4-6 weeks for my bladder capacity to increase to an extent where I hardly recognized myself anymore. Much is conjectured about UAE and the sad fact is that 99% of gynos will not recommend it - whether out of ignorance or fear of financial impact. I was lucky to find this support group and also the embo group here on yahoo groups, where I got very excellent information and support and was able to find a wonderful local IR. If you are interested you can talk to other women who have had or are strongly considering embolization, on the embo group. The decision-making process is the hardest part of the whole thing - the procedure itself is probably the easiest part, and the recovery (in terms of when you are functional) is extremely quick. Most are up and about within a day (although tired) and I was back to work on day 6 post-op (only lost 2 work days actually... although I made arrangements to take it easy for the week I went back.) best of luck to all of you in your journeys to relief - but do consider UAE. laurie g.
