Drinking on the AM of surgery / Scheduling surgery date

While I don't have 's gagging problem, I too, am a heavy water drinker.

2-3 quarts a day. The idea of going without was upsetting for me too,

especially since I was my doctor's second operation of the day. Originally

scheduled for 11 am, but ended up starting around noon.

When I was in the holding area, waiting to go into the OR, the anaesthesiologist

came to see me. I mentioned that I had a mild case of MVP (mitral valve

prolapse, a type of heart murmur). He felt that it was important for me to take

some medication to minimize the risk of infection. He gave me a tiny bottle of

something vile to drink. I drank a bottle; he (jokingly) asked how it was. I

honestly answered that horrible as it was, I was thrilled to be drinking

anything. He then gave me another tiny bottle. Which I drank eagerly too.

Sometimes it takes so little to please us.

In response to the woman who was talking about planning on scheduling her

surgery in April, but has not yet chosen a doctor, realize that some of these

doctors are booked months in advance and you might not be able to get an April

date at this point. If it's really important that your surgery happen in April,

you might want to call their offices now and find out if that's even an option.

R.
